VP9 Question

I referenced the "you suck and we hate you" as a call back to the 1990s era H&K response to the civilian market asking "why don't you make or offer xyz".

During the mid to late-2000s, the "H&K social media girl" continued that tradition by roasting the "poors" on various social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram), when people asked H&K for xyz products.


Her downfall was making fun of the marines, which resulted in her removal from all H&K social media accounts.



Some people speculate that all that clownery is one of the reasons why only the H&K fan boys pay really close attention to what H&K offers on the civilian market.
~The newest H&K pistol is the SFP9CC (subcompact 9mm), unknown if it will be imported to the USA.

I have the VP9 OR and I love it. I sold it after a couple of months after buying it because I have the full size Walther PDP 4” barrel and they felt the same to me. After a year later I started to miss it so I bought it back from the person I sold it too. Lol. I am carrying it all the time. Love the ergos and paddle mag release but I am not sure why it has not taken off like the P30. I have spoken.

I have the "B" version. An opportunity came up to buy one from a friend and I jumped on it. I hear the PDP is nice. I hope to get my hands on one eventually. I've the opportunity to handle and shoot CZ's P10c on several occasions and it's a nice shooter as well. All of these big name manufacturers have taken to Glock and adapted well.

I've wanted one for years. But I can't make myself pay the California Tax for what would essentially be a nicer G17 with an H&K logo on it. I already have a G17 and I know they're not identical but fairly close conceptually.

If I lived in America and could get one for their normal selling price, I'd buy one in a hot minute. But for $1,300 to $2,000? Nah.

I know, it would fit my hand a little better, I like the grip and the aesthetics better than my 2x4 Glock 17 but in the end, it's another polymer large capacity F/S pistol. For $600, sign me up. For double or triple that, can't bring myself to waste that kind of scratch.

I'm with you..it's nice..but not $1000+ nice. I'd rather buy two Glocks and add my standard changes..Ameriglo Hackathorn Night Sights, Talon Grips, TLR-1HL for a full-size pistol G17/21/22 or a TLR-7A for a G19/G23. I'd rather have two good tools vs one great tool..that in reality isn't that much greater.

I have several VP9's and a VP9sK. My go to pistol for IDPA competition (with a long slide) as well as tactical training and CCW. I probably have, thru the three I VP9's I shoot, have 60k rounds thru the pipe and not a single mechanical malfunction/stoppage. Great ergonomics and a polygonal barrel / NATO MilSpec durability / HK quality.

You can buy the VP9 with the paddle or an American button style mag release.

I suspect their lack of popularity in the LE market has more to do with their cost as compared to Glock/S&W. AS for civilian markets, again cost, especially with the non roster status of the gun probably make less popular.

Magazine release is a big deal, another is that HK doesn't make competition guns, either for precision or for modern action shooting. It's just another combat pistol and these days there are many choices in that category.

Go back some decades when the revolvers were still the norm for law enforcement and look at what the options at that time were - metal DA/SA hammer-fired semi-automatics and polymer strikers just trying to make a name for themselves. At that time, having a hybrid of modern polymer technology and DA/SA hammer-fired combat pistol ready for use by the armed forces was a big deal. HK was *the* innovator for polymer pistols and even a very early adopter of the modern-era striker fired handguns, but their designs didn't stick. (Just for historical reference, WWI started after assassination of Archduke Ferdinand using a striker-fired pistol, the year was 1914.) HK had to be dragged to make a striker-fired pistol in 21st century and it wasn't until VP9 that they did it (Beretta was even worse, they *really* resisted).

So, I would take it with a grain of salt that general population might be against HK for their PR stunts. S&W and Ruger both overcame disasters and I believe HK did as well. If they had a lineup of precision and competition guns, standard magazine release used for fast tactical reloads and a selection of handguns in different market segments, I believe they would do quite well. Until then...

I own several HKs, including VP9, USP 9c, P2000SK, HK 45 and 45c, probably some others. VP9 is staged in my house for HD with a light and large magazine. But I don't shoot HKs often, if at all.

I tend to shoot action competition guns (including revolvers) working on draws, movement, transitions and gun handling. I also shoot precision guns from time to time, just to keep fine tuning the fundamentals. And novelty guns are fun on their own, so they go to the range from time to time. Carry guns practice is mostly about drawing and handling the IWB or pocket holsters, with some shooting to keep the feel of the grip and trigger. But larger combat guns that would be used by law enforcement or military tend to stay home - there isn't much to practice with them in the same way there isn't much to practice with a family sedan at either a track or on a dirt road.

i have (1) LE vp9 with the paddle release.
i added a OR long slide to it a few years back.

took it to a class and forgot to grease it up after cleaning it the night before.
didnt last a mag before i swapped it for my glock 17

great gun but doesnt get much use as my gen 3 glocks bc it's off roster (might sell eventually)
honestly, maybe 200ish rds max

The VP9 Match looks pretty cool to me. Probably a little more accurate than the VP9L. But the best bang for the buck is the Canik Rival.
