    VP9 Question

This morning was the first time I gave HK VP9 a workout. One of my colleagues just bought one and let me try it out. Very impressed with that gun. It's a newer, optic ready version
Question. How come VP9 gets much less attention in both LE and civilian circles? My ONLY guess is the magazine release. (?)

    IMO...
It's a combination of H&K still dealing with their public image regarding the civilian market ("you suck and we hate you") and getting lost in the crowd of European made polymer framed striker fired pistols.

H&K makes/sells variants of the VP9 with a traditional button magazine release, instead of the ambi lever magazine release.
    ^VP9B series.

I see. I was honestly impressed with it. I been carrying a Glock 9mm of all generations for 30 years now. HK iis definitely intriguing. In Europe, I see mostly Glocks Gen3 and HK P30 in LE holsters.

VP9 is awesome and the only HK I would own. I’ve had a couple p30’s, usp, p2000 and they all work great but the triggers just suck. I have the vp9-b optic ready now which is a normal American mag release. I don’t think the hk hates you has anything to do with it, only people who are deep into guns have ever even heard of that and who’s feelings would be hurt enough that they wouldn’t buy on because of that. Oh they hate me I can’t buy their gun.

Much better ergonomics and trigger. Both HK VP9 and Walthers PPQ both scored favorably with experts and users. I shoot both much better vs a Glock, and the polymer guns. Magazine release comes in button "B" versions.

I have the ambi-lever version. It's a nice pistol. Feels great in the hands. Shoots well.

It's the only pistol I own that will put the pistol back into battery if I slam a new mag into it. I've heard of guns here and there doing that..but my VP9 is the only one I own that does that. Not really a big fan of that. While I realize it might be nice in a combat situation..I'd rather be in complete control of how the pistol functions on my terms.

I referenced the "you suck and we hate you" as a call back to the 1990s era H&K response to the civilian market asking "why don't you make or offer xyz".

During the mid to late-2000s, the "H&K social media girl" continued that tradition by roasting the "poors" on various social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram), when people asked H&K for xyz products.

Her downfall was making fun of the marines, which resulted in her removal from all H&K social media accounts.

Some people speculate that all that clownery is one of the reasons why only the H&K fan boys pay really close attention to what H&K offers on the civilian market.
~The newest H&K pistol is the SFP9CC (subcompact 9mm), unknown if it will be imported to the USA.

Well Glock is, you know, Glock.

And Sig has had US government contracts.

But H&K doesn't seem to try that hard to market to the US civilian side for pistols - mainly rifles for LE.

I have a VP9 and it is great. I like the ergonomics and the adjustable back and side panels. It has a great trigger. It is well made and well balanced. I like the ambi controls and don't mind the paddle mag release set-up. For me it just shoots naturally and "speaks to me."

The VP9 is pretty good AS-IS right out of the box. The only modifications I have done are: slim line flared mag well extension, Trigicon HR XD sights, and a metal (titanium ?) sleeve to replace the flimsy plastic one that goes around the striker.

I bought a Glock 19 gen 3 last November and really don't care for the grip and really don't care for the gritty heavy trigger. It has taken me almost 5 months to feel comfortable with it. I can't change much of anything and still have it qualify for local CCW permitting.

I am jealous of your friend's OR model. I have an OR cut long 5" slide that I switch out to use with a Holosun red dot on my standard VP9 frame and like it very much.

So, bottom line, find yourself a VP9 and buy it OP. You will be glad you did.

OP, if you like the VP9, you should really like the Walther P99/PPQ/PDP. Ergos are very similar, I think HK copied a lot of the grip geometry from the PPQ. Or at least was heavily "influenced". PPQ trigger is the best factory striker fired trigger IMHO. But I can see how some would not like it. Everyone is different.

                      I have 3 HKs - love 'em...

                      None are VP9 though.

I shot my colleagues PDP full size and find it ok. Just ok. Compact ( shorter grip) PDP was a little better. VP9 was amazing though.

                          ^^^ YUP!

I’ll also add with their “we prefer to only deal with law enforcement agencies and not you little peasants.”

Also, Hk magazines are horrendously out of this world expensive. To me, Hk is the Bud-Lite of pistols and I’m Kid Rock. I own several Hk’s, but stopped buying any more of their firearms a few years ago. All of my Hk’s are safe queens now too.

Most don't realize that HK signed the same agreement that S&W did that almost killed S&W. They manage to keep it hush hush until it was leaked out.

I have a VP9 and honestly don't mind the mag release except that it's not what I am used to. Good pistol, I shoot it well but I don't see any reason to carry it instead of the Glock.
