FA CA320 on a CCW?
Collapse

I'm wondering how this process works out. So if I had either the FA or CA 320, originally DROSed as single shot. After doing all the mods, I pawned it and gets it back following whatever pawnshops charges are, and gets DROSed back to me now as a P320.
The question is, what happens to the original FA/CA 320 that was DROSed first? will it now show on the DOJ/ATF database that I now have two 320s? c FA/CA and a P version? or will the FA/CA 320 firearm be erased and be delisted under my name?giless is correct. If you buy one of these and want to get it listed as a semiauto you will need to let the pawn shop know that you have a FA CA320 or a 2A Zone P320. When you return to pay off your loan and start the new DROS to get it back the pawn shop will list it as a FA CA320 semiauto or a 2A Zone P320 semiauto with the same serial number that is on the FCU. This will update the state's AFS to show it now as a semiauto and you'll be able to get it listed on your permit. The serialized firearm will show as transferred, but one of the fields will now show semi-auto instead of single shot. it's essentially just updating the record for that serial number to accurately reflect it at the time of transfer, though it will no longer be "on-roster," but will remain legal as it hasn't broken any rules making it an "assault weapon," or such.Last edited by morrcarr67; 03-17-2023, 4:34 PM.Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

You could sell the FCU by itself but it wouldn't be DROSed as a semiauto which defeats the purpose of trading.
If you have one and are planning on shooting it before doing the trade to update AFS you should be completely upfront with the other person that you have shot it. In which case the best thing to do would be to put their FCU into your grip frame and slide and vise-a-versa. That way the only thing that has some millage on it will be the FCU. Not as good as trading brand new for brand new but it's the best you can do in that situation.Last edited by morrcarr67; 03-17-2023, 5:20 PM.Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

That is an option. Just keep in mind that the CA DOJ is known for taking their time in processing these transactions. Don't plan on getting it on your permit anytime soon.

Just make sure that the pawn shop will do an off-roster configuration pawn return as a semi-auto converted single shot P320 is NOT how the gun is listed on the roster.A "pawn-return".
1. Go to a pawn store that deals in firearms and pawn your handgun.
2. A few days later, you return to the pawn store and pay back the pawn loan.
3. The pawn store will then transfer (DROS/10 day wait) the handgun back to you.
When the handgun is transferred back to you, make sure the CA DROS has the correct information before it is submitted.
^(example) pistol, semi-auto, SIG, P320, black, 9mm, 4.7" barrel length, serial # XYZ123.
Pawn-return cost = pay back money loan amount + pay interest on the money loan + pay CA DROS fees.
Some pawn shops have been known not to do off-roster pawn returns much the same way that some manufacturers will not do warranty returns of off-roster pistols.Randall Rausch

AFS entries are only made for acquisitions.I'm wondering how this process works out. So if I had either the FA or CA 320, originally DROSed as single shot. After doing all the mods, I pawned it and gets it back following whatever pawnshops charges are, and gets DROSed back to me now as a P320.

Old AFS entries do not get cleared when you transfer a firearm to someone else as the AFS does not track disbursements.
The AFS will forever show that you PURCHASED a single shot FA 320 even after you sold it to someone else.
There will be a second entry for the semi-automatic FA 320 after you DROS it.Randall Rausch

In order to DROS as a semi-auto handgun, the firearm needs to be configured as such.
If it's just an FCU, it will DROS as a frame-only handgun instead of a semi-auto handgun.
What you can do is meet someone who wants to trade FCU's and you can swap all the parts on your FCU's in the parking lot and then do a pair of PPT's as such that you receive a different serial numbered FCU with all your original parts on it back at the end of your PPT.Randall Rausch

Some pawn shops have been known not to do off-roster pawn returns much the same way that some manufacturers will not do warranty returns of off-roster pistols.
Another factor is that some pawn shops/CA FFL dealers may not want to process/deal with certain types of firearms because of the different manufacturer info.
Different manufacturers are involved so it may not be possible to change via pawn return.

Wouldn't it be registered in your wife's name then? Wouldn't fly for CCW I'd imagine.Comment

Has anyone successfully listed one on their CCW? It seems like a lot of steps when you can buy a used p320 or p365 for not much more and not have any issues listing it on your ccw.Comment
