    10mm

Hey fellas, I hope your having a good weekend..

I'm on the lookout for a 10mm, there's not a whole lot of choices out there other then the Glock and I'll probably go this route for my first 10mm.

I'm hoping to keep things under $1200.00. What do you guys think about the S&W 610 and Ruger G100 ? There's not a whole lot of Rugers out there.

Anything else that I should be looking at ?

Good 10mm options are kinda hard to come by. I'd shy away from the Smith 610 and the Ruger GP100. You should go with a semi-auto to get the full benefit of the 10mm. Revolvers are great for shooting, but not reloading under fire.

I'd also avoid anything Glock. Stay with a quality firearm.

If you can find one, the Smith and Wesson 1006 is a pretty good pistol. I have one. It shoots well, and doesn't seem to have the problems that have plagued my other Smith semi-autos.

The 1911 is a classic pistol, and can be had in 10mm, but several of them have had frame cracking issues. I don't fully understand the metallurgy issues involved. But I do know enough to be cautious with 10mm in the 1911 platform.

Sig P220 or a converted USP 40 is my choice.

The glock is popular for a reason. Glock 20 holds 15+1, unlimited upgrades, reliable, accurate. You can find them new for under 600.

I have shot the Kimbers in 10mm and they have all worked fine for me. And they were on the roster the last time I checked.

Glock 20 or 29. Utilizing various spring rates and/or barrels depending on ammo that can go from mild to wild. Good luck.

Absolutely nothing wrong with a Glock 10mm. They are accurate, reliable, and available on the CA roster. I love the 1911 and shot various pistol matches with them for years but went with the 20sf for several reasons. They are less expensive, lighter weight and in my experience , very reliable. The 20sf is my go to for backpacking, fishing, hunting, or anytime when I want a little more power with out carrying a rifle. By swapping a $7 spring it will cycle the lightest target loads or the hottest Buffalo Bore ammo with ease.
The 1006 isn’t a bad pistol but it has been out of production for 25 years, weighs 6 oz more than a Glock 20, costs twice as much and factory magazines cost 3 times as much if you can find one.

I'm going to write this as a huge 1911 fanboy.
                Go with a Glock 20.
Unless you like cracked frames and other issues, then by all means go with a 1911 of some sort.
I hate Glocks, but I am aware enough that they make a superior 10mm handgun. If you're wanting dangerous game defense, 15+1 200gr underwood hardcast is hard to beat.

Do you know there is a new M&P 10mm out? My guess, however, is that it will be above your price range...at least in the beginning...since it's off roster and brand new.

                    Try this as a diagnostic:

Do an internet search on the malady commonly known as "Glock Foot" or "Glock Leg".

Then do the same for "Smith and Wesson Foot" or "Heckler and Koch Foot."

The results will speak for themselves.

Unless you're roster exempt, your best bet is likely a Glock 20 or 29. If you don't need it for concealed carry, choose the 20.

Glocks are top sellers for a reason. They're inexpensive, utterly reliable, indestructible, lightweight, virtually weatherproof, and have respectively little recoil.

However, if you don't point naturally with the steeper grip angle, it might not be for you.

Glock leg is easily prevented. I suggest you be aware when handling firearms, instead of avoiding a good one.
                          I have a G20 and a Springfield 1911 10mm. I can't decide which is better, so I have both.

In 10mm and 1911 I can recommend the Sig, the TRP and the RIA. If you can find any.
