So on Monday a guy opens his icebox, picks up a carton of milk & takes a whiff. Pew - it's spoiled. And he puts it back - figuring "well tomorrow maybe it will smell better"......

So if you didn't like the 1911 the first time, what makes you figure it will be any different this time around? I like my 1911s and think everyone should have 1 or 5 of them, but if you don't like, you don't like.

So in 2004 I opened a bottle from a case of 2003 Chateau Lafite Rothschild and said, "Hmm, could use a little more time."

Frankly, I have not been impressed. The para P14 has been the best of the lot and I traded it for a USP 45f.
I think I have invested about $800 in that stupid gold cup alone at various custom shops trying to get it to shoot and its till a glorified turd. If it wasn't for all the money I have socked into it, I would sell it tomarrow.

I wanted to like the 1911 series, it just doesn't do it for me. Then again, neither do Glocks.

You sound like a candidate for a good semi-custom. Quality and not quantity.

I just got my first 1911 this month and here it is, a stock Rock Island GI with checkered diamond grips I just put on it. I'm going to keep it stock and just shoot the heck out of it. I can't help but to take it out of the box and watch TV with it in my hands, stopping ever so once in awhile to admire the design, they are handsome handguns for sure. My wife thinks I'm turning into a gun nut!

I owned an SA 1911 GI for a brief period of time.

Shot it three times. Didn't really care for it. It wasn't as accurate as my USP, and a bit small for my hands.

But now, while looking in the For Sale forum, I want another one.

What gives? Is the 1911 built with crack in the grip that's absorbed via the skin?

1911s are finished with a coating very similar to that found on Doritos.

Then why do nearly all of them have "idiot marks" on them?
