Yes, guys are d***s but same can go for women.

Actually, guys are much more fun than women in the sense that you talk s**t but it usually isn't taken seriously, whereas women step on each others toes and even after making amends, resentment still exists and eventually causes another situation in the future.

But women have their areas of awesomeness too, I'm just not going to go into a man vs. woman conversation. But I prefer male dominated conversations over female ones, mainly due to subject matter.

And no, I haven't really gotten much responses from the female forums, most of the threads are years old, and the subject matter is vague

The Glock is an excellent teacher. I only had a Glock 22 for about 1.5-year to work with; and with that trigger control with any other guns become a breeze.

Ha! Welcome back. If you sift through the garbage, there's actually some good advice in this thread. Just remember: mindset and training are far more important than which gun to buy. Focus some time and effort researching those as well.

Must agree with previous posts suggesting 9mm Glocks. They come in various sizes, but all are great choices and very controllable in 9mm. My first gun ever was a G19, and I'm never selling it.

The greatest thing about Glocks is also sometimes seen (incorrectly, IMHO) as a weakness: it is a very simple and basic firearm, with a minimum number of controls (no safeties) and minimum number of total parts. You just pick it up and fire. Cleaning and maintenance (and even upgrades) are relatively easy. Glocks are also known for reliability, which is probably the most important aspect of all when considering firearms. And don't let anyone tell you Glocks are inaccurate. They are PLENTY accurate in the hands of trained shooters.

Some common complaints include ergonomics (or lack thereof) and grip angle. IOW, some people think the Glock shape feels uncomfortable in their hands (ergos) or points high (grip angle). If you are a new shooter, you don't have previous experience with other pistols to compare with, so "pointing high" is not a concern. Furthermore, how a gun feels in the hands is sometimes different than how a gun shoots in your hands. Ideally, you could borrow or rent a Glock and shoot it before you make any final purchase decisions.

So there are literally thousands of threads about Glocks where we can discuss AD vs ND (Mr. DEA's case was clearly an ND), manual safeties vs. internal safeties, what HS/LD sights to use for dynamic entry, which gamer spring to use for bunny fart loads, grip reductions, etc. None of these are really appropriate for a thread started by a self-professed noob asking which 1st Glock to buy.

Actually, the history of firearms as well as safety, I think are the BEST educators before a "noob" gets his/her first firearm.

Plus I am an information junkie and rather do the research before putting both feet in for experimentation.

Yes, you can. You cannot get 17 round magazines and are limited to neutered 10 round mags. You're also limited to Generation 3 guns, which are still pretty good. I have a stack of them that are pushing 15 years old or more. Check the roster for Glocks. Then go online and look around after finding your nearest gun store or FFL that can do the transfer.

A good default Glock to buy is the Glock 19.3 You cannot go wrong with it and you can compliment it with a Glock 26.3 later. (Glock model . generation -- 19.3 is a third gen 19.)

Generally, I recommend this:

1) Acquire eight to twelve magazines as soon as possible. They are expendable items that eventually go bad. Do not get too attached to them. You will also need them for training. The great news is that Glock magazines are excellent and my early generation mags lasted a decade before dying. My "new" Generation 3 magazines are still running strong, though I have changed the springs on a few. The tubes are still good. Many other brands of mags seem to wear out faster. Again, DO NOT GET ATTACHED. A buddy of mine was attached to his old GI AR15 mags and had lots of jams in a carbine class we attended together. The reliability issues went away when he broke out his new Magpul PMags. When going to class or the range, make sure to take the Glock mag loader that comes with it. Your thumbs will thank you.

1a) Sights are really important. Change the factory plastic sights for either Glock steel sights, Trijicon HD night sights or Trijicon HD XR night sights. I have always had good luck with Trijicon night sights. They survived **me** where other sights broke. At $50-100 for replacement rear or fronts, it got expensive bumping into things. 2) Attend a one or two day basic defensive pistol course as soon as possible.

3) Gun choice doesn't matter so much; it's just a pistol and pistols are wimpy. Glocks are really good for what they are. As a defensive gun, they are just fine and they last a long time. While I prefer 45 ACP, 9x19mm is just fine for defense with modern jacketed hollow point ammunition. 9x19mm used to be cheaper to shoot (thanks COVID) and Glocks are designed around them.

4) Get a cleaning kit, some solvent, some lithium grease from the hardware store (just so you know...a 1 ounce tube lasted almost a decade and I shot a lot during that time--250-300k rounds).

5) After attending "Level 1" training, attend Level 2 training within three to six months.

6) Minimize modifications. Swap the sights and leave it alone. Glocks are reliable (#1 priority for defense pistols) and accurate enough for defensive purposes. Do not mistake "competition grade accuracy" as a desired attribute for a defensive weapon. Such modifications can reduce reliability, but that's not always the case. As a new shooter, you're not going to know how to tell the difference short of talking to a REAL gunsmith.

7) Everyone is going to argue/has been arguing about minimal differences between makes and models. It sounds like you are a new shooter; you will not be able to take advantage of slight improvements until you're a more skilled handgun shooter. YOU NEED TO LEARN TO RUN THE GUN FIRST (see Level 1 and 2 training).

If California were sane, I would tell you to rent the following off-roster guns to try after getting some instruction.
