    Newb asking about glocks

    Hi,
I'm Jeniva. I am considering getting a gun and I am leaning toward getting a glock. Any suggestions on which glock is best? I did some research and I like the glock 42.

Depending on your hand size the G42 can be a great gun. If you live in CA it will cost you a bit more to get one and will take some work, but it will be worth it if that's the gun for you.

If you do not plan to carry the gun then you might consider a Glock 19, and if your hands are not average man size then you might seek out a Gen 4 Glock 19 because the trigger reach is shorter. If this is your first gun, it will be easier to manipulate and learn to shoot a larger gun than the G42. But there is nothing wrong with choosing a G42 especially if you have smaller hands.

The Glock 42 is a fine firearm, but it is not on roster. For a on roster firearm, check out the Glock 26 or 19. A similar size option that is not a Glock would be the S&W Shield.

Are you getting it for carry purposes, home defense or fun plinking?
Either way I suggest you rent a few if it all possible first, best for us may not be best for you.
The 19 is very versatile and popular.
        I like my two Glocks, a 19 (HD) and a 34 (plinking).
        I have shot the 26, 43, 35 and 17

The best research is holding and then shooting.
When I went to get my first gun, I was pretty sure it was going to be a Beretta 92 but it just felt wrong to me.
        I ended up with a Browning Hi-Power.

Welcome to Calguns and let us know what you end up getting.

Many ranges will rent you on roster Glocks to try. You may need to bring a friend in order to rent (can't do it alone). You can also try other brands to see what you like. G42 is not on the California roster, so you won't be able to easily rent that model. And if you are not law enforcement, you will have to purchase it used by private party transfer in California.

You can find the roster here:

Also, smaller handguns can be more difficult to shoot than larger models. Depending on your intended use for the pistol, the 42 can be a good or bad choice. It will certainly be harder to find than the more popular, on roster models. Good luck!

G42 is for Fuds and boomers.

If you don't have a CCW license there is no reason to prefer a Glock 42 over other Glocks. Points against the Glock 42:
                • Not on the roster so harder to find and more expensive in California than on-roster pistols
                • Smaller size and harder to shoot accurately than a larger Glock
                • .380ACP ammo is more expensive than 9mm even in normal times
                • .380ACP is less desirable than 9mm for self-defense
                • Magazine capacity is only 6 compared to the California-legal limit of 10 available for other Glocks

I have a couple of Glock 17s and a Glock 19. I don't have large hands and I actually prefer the feel of the Glock 17 over the Glock 19. The arch on the back of the grip hits in the middle of my palm on a Glock 19 whereas it hits lower on my palm with a Glock 17. The Glock 17 just feels better in my not large hand. Both the Glock 17 and 19 are larger and easier to shoot accurately than the Glock 42, allow larger magazine capacity, and use a more effective round than the Glock 42. If you are not using it for concealed carry there is no advantage of a Glock 42 over a 17 or 19.

                Revolvers are not pistols

pistol nouna handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel
Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.

                    What car should I get?

Well that entirely depends on what you like and what your budget is, and my opinion is irrelevant because everyone has good stories about their cars and others have bad stories about your car.

If this isn’t a troll post I’d say do what a person said above. Go to the range and rent some and see what you like.

Personally I don’t like Glocks, but again this is just my opinion and my opinion doesn’t matter. They’re all pretty good, they’re all pretty reliable and the ammo for all of them are currently hard to get and expensive.... unless you get a .22

I had a G36 (oddball one) and fire my friend’s 3 whatever ones he has, two are his duty issue and ones the personal and it just doesn’t ruffle my jimmies like I thought they would... you know because everyone is “Glock is this!” And “Glock is that!” And “Glocks are the best!”

I have a HK p30sk with the LEM trigger, and a Kimber warrior- and I absolutely love them both. I had to go through 5 or 6 guns to form a concrete opinion on my likes and dislikes. You will get there too.

Get any of the on-roster FULL-size Glock, SA XD, etc.

Get GOOD training. Practice. Come back to this question 6-months later.

Once you understand and comfortable with fundamentals - you will most likely buy another gun and/or change what you first got.

One thing that is a given like anything else - the best gun that will work for you, is one that fits you the best and one that you practice and shoot with. Yes, there are shooters that can work with any other gun; but, they still have their favorites.

They're okay if that's all you can afford, and they're fine if you just want to say you own a gun, but other than that they just feel and shoot like the cheaply made plastic guns they are. The military now uses them as light-weight throw-away guns in the field, and many police agencies use them because of low-bid contract requirements, but if you can afford to spend a little more, you can do a lot better than a Glock.
That is the best advice yet.

Getting started with Glocks, any model, especially the tiny ones like G42, 43, 26, 27, etc is not a good start for learning to shoot handguns.
Good starters are guns like CZ75b, 1911s of any brand, Sig 226, Browning HP, and equivalents that are hammer fired and all metal/steel in 9mm.

Hah. True. Good thing most jaded Calguns members answer every "please decide for me, because I'm helpless" post like it was troll bait... even if they were really just innocently helpless.

Obviously it is a easy setup for the Glock haters to run in white knighting the poor new person who already figured out Glocks are popular for a reason.
