Glock 19/17 Optics-Ready Slide - What will you get?

Wife will be taking a 2-day class later in the year as a "refresher."

She says that she likes the idea of using red dots, after playing (but not shooting) my polymer Walther Q5 (DPP) and G34 MOS (SRO).

That said, I would not want to mill the OEM slide and looking to purchasing an optic ready slide. I see several options...

What would be your vote? Emphasis is on reliability. (I have seen a milled Glock 34 slide break in a class. I forgot what was the name of the shop, though).

Right now, I am leaning to the Suarez slides...

    Thanks in advanced!

I went Zev. Not that I'm claiming they're the best, just that I was aware of the name and a generally good reputation. I've heard Brownells is also very good, less flashy too.

I'd heard there was some shady stuff about Suarez, but I can't remember what it was. Maybe that's irrelevant now.

I like ZEV, too... Just a bit flashy and $$$

Oh, yeah! I am aware of that...

While Midway USA have reviews on UN-reliability... Hhhhmmm... Brownells may indeed be a good pick.

I’ve seen numerous aftermarket “carry optics” slide’s fail at USPSA events. I’d say send your OEM slide to get milled or else get a MOS slide. (I’m not saying all aftermarket slides are bad) but there are some that just don’t meet the Glock reliability that I’m used to seeing in events.

I'm a Suarez slide customer and would buy a few more slides and parts from them if I had a bigger budget. My G19 slide and RMR has been bullet proof through case after case of 9mm ammo...sadly, I can no longer do that lol (I'm more like shooting a box or 2 per infrequent session.).

Anyhows, I like my slide so much, I'm gonna get another one at some point down the road. My Suarez trigger has been great too...unlike many, I've only been through a few triggers before stopping on this one.

Anyways, if you want no drama, the Suarez is good to go out of the box. Pop it on your gun and start shooting eyeball shots during your warmups.

            OEM slides are all gone...

Those with ZEV right now are for the Leupold DPP...

That, I just stumbled into this...

            Grey Ghost Precisions

(*) Seems to be a reputable vendor, especially in the SIG market

Slides are dual-use, either RMR or DPP.

Also, since I can get an extra 10% off from OpticsPlanet - this gives me a multi-use slide for $380...

            Hhhmmm....

I have a Suarez International for my G19 that has been pretty solid.

I picked up a G26 slide from Brownells that was already cut for a RMR. It comes with forward cocking serrations like the Gen5’s and a window cut out on the top similar to the G34. I can do with or without the top cut out, but I’m guessing they are reducing the weight of the slide to offset the weight of the RMR. I’ve only put 150 rounds down range so far, but no issue to report.

I ended up buying another slide for my G19, I still need to take it to the range. They cost approx. $215 on sale.

I'm in the market for an rmr cut slide for my G19 as well. I was probably just going to go cheap and cheery and get the Brownells one. The more I read though makes me think I want to get something nicer.

I like my Brownell's G19 slide. I like utilitarian guns though... do not mind all black and nothing fancy, but can appreciate the space gun details too or I wouldn't love AR's so much.

Personally I almost got an ARK slide from SI. I have two of their MASS DRIVER comps... also have two Glock OEM MOS slides (G40, G17).

I am glad I got the Brownell's for the cost... on sale, and coupon code... remember you have to add the build kit and hopefully you are moving the barrel over... if you are going long slide like a G17 to a G34, you are buying a barrel too. It can add up. Especially when you start with a $400 stripped slide.

^I have an SI Ark slide. Very good build quality. Haven't gotten a chance to give her a proper testing, but I see no reason I will run into reliability issues. The optic cut is great too, as you can mount just about any optic to it.

Thank you guys for your recommendations... So many options out there...

Again, I am less of "how it looks," but more on reliability. I don't like my wife going through a class and have it ruined because of a faulty slide. I won't be with her in the class as would have to be doing 'daddy duties' to the 2-boys.

Let me check the Ark slide, as well...

I've seen a lot of different mfg slides have fails to eject and break a lot of extractors due to poor tolerances. Most all failures of Glocks is due to after market parts being installed. If you want Glock reliability then have your factory slide milled. The cost to mill a RMR cut slide is 85.00 and 60.00 to have it re nitrited from Battlewerx. I have several slides from them since they have the additional locating boss milled into the slide.
                            Can DI AR's run dirty?

You ARE absolutely right, and was actually contemplating that course of action. Unfortunately, OEM slides for the G19.3 have been out-of-stock for weeks now. I have placed mysef in waiting list notifications, etc. but so far, it has been naught.

Hence, I am thinking if this to mill my current OEM slide so my wife has something to use. Then once inventory comes back, to buy a new OEM slide that doesn't need to get milled...

As for Battlewerx - I am actually thinking of going with Jagerwerks because they have a "boss" (front recoil posts). Might as well...
