I have the one from 10-8 Performance in my Springfield 1911. I didn't want to mess with notching out the original slide stop. I think it makes it a little easier to reassemble.

For folks who do not want to do Dremel/filing/sanding/touch up blueing work or do not have the tools at hand.

The Cabot one has a small groove in it on the face that engages the plunger - you can barely see it in the photo, it looks more prominent in the video for it by Cabot on YouTube.

The 10-8 version has a longer pad, though.

When I bought my S&W stainless 1911 before it dropped off the roster many years ago, I did not know about the 'idiot scratch'.
I just read the manual that came with the 1911 and did what it said for disassembly and reassembly.
So yes, when I reassembled, I did scratch it... Doesn't show up much since it's stainless, and quite frankly - it was intended to be a shooter and a pistol I would use and have fun with, so I didn't really care.
That said, I now know what to do so I didn't do it again - just learn from our mistakes so we don't do it again... That's life...

Same story for me. My first gun I ever bought was a S&W 1911. First time taking it apart I scratched it. It was only much later from reading and learning on this forum that I found the proper definition = idiot scratch!! But I still own that SW1911 and she's a shooter-- doesn't bother me.

Now my car is a whole other story. I drive it to work and home every day and any time I find a new little scratch it drives me insane until I get it fixed.

I believe that bevel is called the Logman mod?

Some of my 1911s come with that bevel. Definitely makes life easier.

I don't recall hearing the Gunny mention an "idiot scratch" even once in my training. We certainly weren't looking for it on any inspections.

No amature gunsmiths?

I have mill file marks on the frame of my first 1911 (cutting in a beaver tail to a GI). The gun is functionally incredible now, and I learned a lot.

Id rather have a file scuff on a gun I perfected myself, than a flawless one that someone else did... But I doubt this is a much shared sentiment.

I have several I've built/modified (btgs install on Les Baer Hardballer, Kimber I converted to .40S&W, beveled magazine well on a Beretta Brigadier), none are Cifaldi quality aesthetics, but all are completely functional, and look nice. Any of the BTGS I've installed look miles better than those abortion "drop-in" ones you see people bragging about.

Do I intentionally build them ugly, or scratch them? No. But when something happens, I fix it if I can, or if it's even worth worrying about, and move on.

That said, ive never stipple a Glock. Too much work when I can send $20.00 to Talon Grips, and if/when I sell it, its a feature, and not a bug. Its funny, I know a lot of people who pay extra for stipple games, but won't buy a used gun already stippled. Not judging, just noticing.

Same on guns with replaceable grip panels. I'll stipple or epoxy & grit the inserts, but leave the frame of the gun alone. I can buy replacement panels for $5.00, but frame mods limit who I'll be able to sell it to.
