I own a few 1911s, have bought and sold more, however I've never seen or inflicted an idiot mark. I don't even get it in my (I guess relatively limited) experience. Push the slide stop straight in like every other gun.

Sent my early edition P238 back to Sig for a jamming fix and it came back with an idiot scratch. I didn't take any photos of it before I shipped it off but luckily Sig accepted responsibility, sent it back again for a bead blasting which turned out perfect.

My first and (currently) only 1911 has a slight idiot scratch mark because I didn't know how to properly reassemble the pistol at the time. I don't care about it too much because I don't see myself ever selling it off, and I like the aesthetics of a gun that has wear on it. I don't baby my firearms at all.

You have to do the logman mod to the part or purchase a slide stop that has the notch cut in it, like a WC bulletproof.
