Glock 19 vs 17

I own both and prefer the 19. It feels more comfortable in my hand and the slightly smaller size is easier to conceal.
I saw someone above mention the 19X, I thought it was a joke when I first saw it. Then when I learned it was a real pistol I was baffled why you would purchase one. After shooting it, I understand now. It was a pleasure to shoot.Comment

I own both, I like both, but I prefer my 17. The first formal training course I ever took was taught using Glock 17's. So I bought one for myself and continued training with it. So I prefer the 17 because it's something I'm confident and competent in.Comment

The G30 SF is nice, it also uses standard double stack 10 rd magazines with the finger extension and has the Gen 4 style heavy duty double recoil spring assembly.
The G21 SF is also good shooter, full service size modelComment

California is a 10rd state, what is the point of purchasing a new gun that you legally can't currently but standard mags for? My comment has nothing to do with caliber, just Glock .45 models, sorry for any confusion.Originally posted by jessegpresleyBullets don't magically become more powerful because you live in California.

The original guy I quoted said his next Glock was going to be a .45. Enjoy your 9mm, I know I do mine. They don't make my .45's jealous.Originally posted by jessegpresleyWhat is the point of purchasing a gun (45 Auto) that provides no performance advantage over 9mm, is harder to shoot fast, and costs 50% more to practice with?Last edited by norcalAF; 07-04-2020, 9:19 AM.Comment

I wear medium size gloves and prefer bigger grips on a handgun, because there's more surface area for my support hand to place directly on the grip. That leads to better control.Comment

I'll skip the effectiveness of 9mm vs 45 acp debate for a different thread.Originally posted by jessegpresleyWhat is the point of purchasing a gun (45 Auto) that provides no performance advantage over 9mm, is harder to shoot fast, and costs 50% more to practice with?
Simply the reason for shooting 45 is for personal enjoyment. It's fun shooting different calibers.
Additionally, there are physiological benefits. I have no data to prove that shooting higher calibers over a long period of time improves the grip strength, but wouldn't surprise me if it did. Also, there's the psychological benefit. Try shooting a mag of 45 and then shoot a 9mm afterwards. The 9 feels like a pea shooter. I didn't become stronger after one mag of 45, but getting experience on a higher caliber trains my brain to become more recoil tolerant.Comment

I wear size L gloves and have average hands, I find the G19 grip small. Obviously my hand fits, but just barely, def get Glock knuckle from having my hands crammed into the trigger guard. Also, as mentioned by others, with a compact you get less support hand contact. The G19 is a compact and you’re compromising grip for a more concealable gun. If you don't have an EDC permit, then 19 makes less sense than the 17 IMO.
OP, I think 17 + 26 = perfect combo. 26 shoots great and is more concealable than a 19.Last edited by Calier; 07-04-2020, 11:05 AM.Comment

I wear XL gloves, and have owned Glocks (17L, 19, 21, 21SF, 23, 26. 30, 30SF, 34, 36, and 41). Most fun with the 26 and 30. Won a three-day Indoor GSF match with the 34. CCW lists a 19, 26, 30, 30SF and 36. Those not on the CCW have moved on.
If I could only keep one, it would be the 26. I shoot it accurately enough, and much faster than any of the others. It just falls into a fast cadence for me, makes me grin every time. The 30. 30SF and 19 are all secured in vehicles, the 36 is my summer rattlesnake gun loaded with CCI shotshells. My nightstand gun is my EDC, so either a Shield9 or G26. My coffee table hideout is a XD 45. My preferred range toy is a 9mm 1911.
I thought I'd love the 17L and 41. Bought the 17L and 21SF from a LEO, got a decent deal. The 41 was one of my last SSE purchased, when they were just out. The 17L and 41 soon became safe queens - just did not enjoy shooting them. Strongly favored the 26 and 30, and could easily carry them. When I decided to sell them, the 17L and 41 were both in demand. A friend loved the 21SF and the 34, so he bought them. We keep dancing around the 34, it may come back to me.
One of the nice things about Glocks is that they are a commodity. They hold their value better than most, and when they are in short supply they typically rise in value. The two most expensive ones I've owned were the 17L and 41, and I made considerable profit on each when I sold them.Comment

For me its simple. Lol
I carry G17 on duty for almost 27 years. Whenever I can , I carry G17 off duty or when I really want something smaller I carry G19.
G17 is always my preferred carry pistol.
If I was limited to 10 round magazines , I would carry my G26 Gen 3 with Pearce magazine extension and never look back.Comment
