Not surprising, and I doubt it was dropped.

Was that there when you jailed it?

Start shooting it, lube repeat. Soon, there will be other scares that will give it character...making it uniquely yours. Does not affect the operation...who cares.

Besides...you won’t (or shouldn’t) be looking at that end when shooting it...or that much anyways...

Does no one inspect their firearms before taking them home? Nothing to do but to shoot the bejeezus out of it.

The crown, or lack thereof is pretty standard for Springfield. Its like their....signature I guess. I know you knew that!

Apparently not...there's a thread like this around once a week.
True wealth is time. Time to enjoy life.

Life's journey is not to arrive safely in a well preserved body, but rather to slide in sideways, totally worn out, shouting "holy schit...what a ride"!!

To answer the OP, YES, that is normal for a Springfield. Also, NO, I doubt someone dropped your gun, missed the barrel that protrudes from the slide, and hit the slide itself, while missing the sight.

Look at it from the perspective of the larger picture.

If all else is fine; fit, blending, trigger pull, slide/frame fit, barrel fit, barrel throat, clean of machining marks and true flat slide sides etc.. then that minor detraction is meaningless.

                    It is a production gun.

Read the many 1911 forums and gather testimonies about other big name production, semi custom and custom 1911 pistols being returned soon after purchase for cosmetic and mechanical problems...

Sadly, it goes with the territory.

If this is your first model 1911, find out how to avoid 'the idiot scratch'.

Yes it is normal for a 1k gun from Springfield.

I have paid more and got worse from Springfield.

The only gun I would buy from Springfield is an XD. Croatians have better quality control than US companies. I know Springfield gets stuff from Brazil, but my Taurus guns are/were better made than any Springfield I owned.

If it doesn't rattle like a baby toy, I wouldn't complain.
