I'll go slightly against the grain here.

To me, 1911 is a platform, much more than a product.

The factory 1911s are the starting point for making a great gun, not the end result. This is especially true since any of the main custom parts, e.g., barrel, slide, hammer, beaver tail, etc., require hand fitting for optimal results, which in turn yields a custom-fit gun that is miles away from the initial gun. If it were all just drop-in, it could be both done on the cheap and the resulting fit would depend on the manufacturer, not the gunsmith.

So, getting a different SA model up the price ladder is not going to yield the same result as getting the work done on a lower model, and if you plan on getting the work done to get a really nice 1911, the extra features of the more expensive model will mostly be undone and/or replaced.

I look at the upper tier 1911s only if I don't intend to modify them, or if they are already coming from a custom shop such as SVI.

I have a SA Loaded, fit and finish is crap. The edges on the slide are all "wavy". It's ugly. But it is literally the only 1911 I own that has never had a single FTF out of the box. All my other 1911's required some sort of tune up to run right. I sort of accept that 1911s, other than the super high end ones, are going to require some tuning/break in. And I get why people scoff at the idea of a brand new gun that needs to go back to the factory or a to a 'smith before it works. So for "entry level" 1911's I think a SA GI or Loaded is where it' at.

Springfields below the TRP have a rough finish. Fit and accuracy is ok for the price and some are better than OK. I have a bunch of them.

Dollar for $, Dan Wesson is a better 1911 these days. Almost the same as custom made but at TRP price level.

                Just my $.02.

My first and only 1911 is a Springfield Loaded. Great value. Great shooter.

I have had terrible luck with SA and will not buy anoher. I have a fixed up EMP but the other seven or eight guns were disasters out of the box.

If anyone that currently has a SA 1911 and that doesn't like the direction the company is going would like to sell their crap-company 1911s just to get rid of them and show your unhappiness with them, please let me know.
My sentiments exactly, even if yours were humorously stated.

I have had nothing but positive experiences with all three of my 1911-pattern pistols, two of which are SA Loadeds. I simply shoot and clean them. I'm at the point now where I wish to do a little fine-tuning of their triggers but their accuracy is greater than my own. They are well-made pistols for their price.

That’s some great looking pistols! I only have 2 Springfield Armory 1911s, but they are a joy to shoot.

My SA Loaded is the workhorse of my 1911 group. It gets a lot of work and never complains. I don't mind shooting top +P rounds in it either. It keeps chugging away.

I have a stainless loaded and a long beach operator. They are both great guns and I've had zero issues with either one
