      I've shot a lot of 1911 from under $800 to $4000, but ultimately I got a Glock 21SF and love it. You won't be wrong with it, and the money between a glock and a workable 1911 is about several thousands of 45ACP rounds, which will help you to manage the caliber.
      God created man;
      Sam Colt made them equal.

        I'm still trying to find the sweet spot for the slide stop during reassembly but other than that it's not a big deal. No doubt it's more work than my Glocks and Sigs but it's not terrible. Honestly, shooting it makes it worth the extra work!

          I don't know what your budget is, but the 1911s made by Armscor and sold under different brands are good value. https://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/...+8%2B1+45ACP+5

          Sound advice there. I have an assortment of 1911's, Glocks, and a few others, and the Armscor products are an excellent value.
          HOWEVER, as others have stated, BUY AMMUNITION NOW!!!
          It is MUCH less expensive, and easier than it ever will be again. I'm seeing factory .45ACP ball for $233/1,000 at some internet sites. Purchasing 5K, and then taking time to find the right gun for you makes sense. You can then take up reloading afterward.

            Since BP suggested a 1911, and finally got his plastic obsession over with, I say go try an SA...or go big and get something really nice....

                            If you like the Glock, then chances are that you will like the G30. By all accounts it is a great little 45. My only experience with a Glock in 45ACP was a gen 2 G21. It was not one of my favorite pistols, and I quickly traded it off for something else. I do like my G27, and I have been tempted by the G30SF.

                            That said, I have 2 Colt 1911's. One is an all steel 5", and the other a Lightweight Commander. I have carried both (back when I lived in a free State), and by far they are my two favorite auto's. Since you are looking to expand your collection, and already own a Glock, I would lean towards the 1911 platform. There is a reason why it is the standard by which all auto's are measured.

                              Get a 1911 like a Springfield loaded or better enjoy it and if you want to upgrade that will be the start of your 1911 family. Unless your going to carry don't get a poly get metal. If you can try out a CZ 97b love mine it fits right in with my 1911s.
