I am not in Kalifornia and at $2K per gun you have a lot more money than I have. You're welcome? I am glad you are not my financial advisor.

A Remington R1 or an RIA at less than 1/3 the price will be a very functional 1911 and you can spend the other money on whatever you choose to "enhance" it, and there are many options.

Most of you folks rely upon others to do the work for you, and you then sit back and have a BBQ gun and really have no idea how the 1911 works mechanically. Get real and learn how easy it is to work on a 1911 with the proper edumacation.

One can make the R1 or the RIA into a tack driver if one has the proper knowledge and skills for little money. It just won't have a Baer or other tag on the gun.

I sold off all of my other 1911's after I bought and shot my Premier II 1.5 (except I did keep my DW C-Bob for a Commander length 1911).

For a smaller polymer .45, I love my G36. Got it as part of a trade, and couldn't believe how nice it shoots.

Another .45 I would never sell after shooting it is my P220 Equinox. Gotta love guns factory tuned by Sig.

Maybe I missed it but I didn't see in the original post where the OP wanted to learn gunsmithing. But I did see a request for suggestions for "nice toys."

Actually I'm a lousy gunsmith so something simple like my Glock works well for me..

That is a good collection for a new shooter man.

You can stock up on 357 and .38s for hoarding purposes and use the money saved to shoot your current collection to smithereens. That glock looks hungry and is cheap to feed, relatively.

+1 on Dan Wesson! Great 1911's for the price. After that the sky is the limit...I would go with Wilson Combat or Les Baer but they are all awesome 1911's. Good luck!

Field stripping and reassembling a 1911 is a little more complicated than with your Glock 34, but with a little practice it isn't hard

                    Just avoid the "idiot scratch".

                    Revolvers are not pistols

pistol nouna handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel
Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.

I agree everyone should know how their gun works, which these days is as easy as spending 30 minutes watching youtube and tinkering for most models.

That said, dropping a trigger into a gun, or changing sites, vs some of the more complicated (and dangerous to perform) services offered by these high end manufacturers, is different. Mostly in that they require equipment, since again, youtube literally shows you how to do everything you can think of. Adding an optical sight for example, is going to require some external gun smithing unless you are already elbow deep into working with metal.

Thanks man, my ex wife hated guns so I'm playing catch-up

I have a Miroku Winchester in .357 also so I stocked up on and shoot a **** ton of 38spl and .357

This upcoming ban has been a positive for me as I've been stocking up on calibers I don't own a gun for then buying a gun to shoot them with! I bought extra guns for .22LR...12ga...9mm...now it's time for a 45ACP!

I'd get both a 1911 and a polymer .45. If i only had to get one it'd be a USP.

My suggestion is to stock up on powder and primer
                              FOR SALE:
                              A2 birdcage $5
WTT CCI small pistol primers for either large pistol, small rifle, or large rifle

                                HK USP 45 Expert?

I'm going to turn this situation into a positive and use it as an excuse to buy a new gun in a caliber that I don't currently own but I'm stocking up on, 45ACP. I have wanted either a 1911 or a 45ACP polymer pistol for a while but can't make up my mind on which to get...any thoughts and advice for a relatively new gun owner looking to expand his collection with nice toys?
I had the same question just a couple of months ago (wanting to get a 45 ACP), and was pondering whether to get a nice 1911 like Dan Wesson or even Les Baer, or a high-end polymer like HK. I ended up getting a 45 Expert, as I was already familiar with the USP's controls and the DA/SA system. Its trigger in SA is pretty good (though probably not as good as a 1911 as there's some take-up), and it shoots well.
