I bought my 44 cal Desert Eagle 17 years ago, and have never regretted it. It may not be the most practical handgun I own, but it sure is fun to shoot. Everyone I let try it always has a big grin on their face after shooting it. Very accurate also. I reload, and have not had any problems with it cycling my ammo. I consider it 1 of my "fun" handguns that I have just to play with out in the desert along with my other "fun" rifle (a BAR). No real reason to own them, but everyone sure has fun shooting them. I did get the 50 cal conversion (before they had the compensated barrels), but it really wasn't all that "fun" to shoot so I sold it. With the compensated barrel recoil is reduced quite a bit, so I may consider going that route again.

I've had the 44 mag one fore a while, put on a barrel with muzzle break and you'll get some nice fireballs. make sure to shoot with recommended ammo. I always use magtech RND 240gr. you wont regret it.

Took me a while, but once I got mine working (broken in) it has been pretty great. Got the .44mag with the .50 ae conversion barrel. Finding rounds that work for the .44mag is hard. 50 ae, usually is easy once it is broken in. Expect jams every other round at the start.

I had a used .44 years ago that would only eat +p, and I could only get them at crossroads gun shows because i couldn't ship to LA.

I'd been promising myself for years that when a DE .357 showed up with an affordable price tag, I'd buy it. Lo and behold, what shows up in the Cabelas Gun Library but a Mk I for a price less than most 1911s. It's Parkerized, a little worn, but functions perfectly on full-power .357 and is as accurate as any other pistol in my safe. Best of all, it turns shooting those full-power .357 rounds into something more like lightweight .45 ACP through a 1911. Holding up all that steel is way more work than dealing with the recoil. Lots more fun to shoot than my Coonan!

Home defense? Nope, too many better candidates in the safe.

Hunting carry? Yup, if I wanted to beat the game to death with it. Otherwise, see above.

Fun at the range? You better believe it! Best of all is the look on the face of someone shooting it for the first time and wondering why it didn't throw them backward at Mach 1...

Seriously, OP... if you want one, get one. It might not be practical, but it's good clean fun!

You should get one OP, or more than one. And pick a crazy finish. My first one was black, but the truth is, you need a loud, in your face finish to truly complete the experience.



Also, if you can manage it, find one that is not the California version. That "additional safety feature" you like will drive you mad when it comes time to remove the bolt for cleaning!

So.... yesterday I was at the range shooting my new Sig P226, what an excellent firearm in stock form, I will definitely have to get the SRT for it.

After shooting I decided to look at the guns they had, they had 2 Desert eagles, 1 stainless and 1 bronze finish on display. I asked to look at the Bronze one, I must say it was a nice gun....

but....


The temptation is starting to fade... I realized very heavy, and big grips... I think what I had was...

Ginormous Handgun Syndrome... where all logic goes out the window and insanity ensues...

I did handle a nice Beretta 92FS with Recover grips on it, and I found that to be rather nice and significantly cheaper at 700 including the grips, 650 without the recover grips.
