Had a .44 a few years back. Was an impulse buy and I enjoyed the gun for a little while before the novelty wore off. After that, it just sat in the safe until one day I threw it in as a trade for another gun.

I don't have a DE, but my brother has had one in .44 Mag for over 25 years. Yes, it's awesome and a fun range toy. It's also really heavy, expensive and tiring to shoot IMHO. A 50 round box is about all I care to shoot in an outing with it. For home defense I'll take a 9mm or .45 any day.

Go rent one first to make sure you really want one. But my all means if you like it then go for it.

There are plenty who have nothing good to say about them. Usually those who've never fired one.
Truthfully, they're expensive to shoot, overkill for home defense, useless as a carry gun, but fun as F.
Can be used as a hunting sidearm (If you have a chest rig), and in my opinion, a must have if you're trying to fill out a collection.
Do what you want. I love mine.
