First Glock - 19 or 17?

I am ready to buy my first glock, but I am having a hard time deciding on the 17 or 19 (gen 3 since I'm in CA).

Conceal carry is not a factor. I currently have a Shield, CZ 75b and a P238. So I have a full size and two small barrel guns, so based on that would anyone recommend the 19 over the 17?

Any input would be appreciated.

I got a 19 first. Then 34...a 20, 21...and soon...maybe another. They're great pistols. I recommend you get the 19. But it's your monkey. Get what you like best.

I fondled the 19 and 17 and the 19 is so much more balanced. Got me a 19 and 20 with the next one being a 34.

I'm not too fond of the long barrels tbh. I'll have to give that one a try at the range when I take my g19 and shield to test out.

This doesn't make much sense, frankly. It's the same caliber. Both double stacked. Circumference of the grip is the same. The 17 being longer barreled (and thus longer dwell time and higher velocity) is slightly easier to be accurate out of the box. But, it's nothing practice and skill can't overcome. In terms of shooting, there is not a whole lot of difference between the two. If for concealing, somewhat moot in the state of CA, then obviously the shorter 19 is better suited. In that role, the G26 and G43 are far better options.

For first time pistol owner, either G19 or 17 will do just fine. You might want to consider adding a 22LR conversion kit to practice fundamentals. Not that 9mm ammunition prices are bad these days, but 22LR is still cheaper. And with new rules on ammunition purchases, it wouldn't hurt to conserve your stash of 9mm.

19 dude. Its a good all around size that can perform a wide variety of roles. All this "OmG iT DoEsNt fIt My HaNd" is total BS. Grip the damn gun, get sight alignment, and press the trigger to the rear without disturbing the sights; regardless of what gun you have. Last i checked fighting sucks and dying sucks more. I think you're grown enough to get past trying to find a gun made by temperpedic. Plenty of big dudes carry the 26; why can they shoot that well yet on the forums people seem to foster this idea that you somehow cant adapt to different sized grips and must be babied by the gun?

Bought G19 as first gun

I purchased a Glock 19 first at the suggestion of my mentor and think it is probably a good choice. If concealed is not an issue and you want to just range shoot the 17 or 34 would give you some sighting advantages. My next one will be a G34. I have shot my mentor's and the consistency is better for me getting on target and staying there.
