    First Glock - 19 or 17?

I am ready to buy my first glock, but I am having a hard time deciding on the 17 or 19 (gen 3 since I'm in CA).

Conceal carry is not a factor. I currently have a Shield, CZ 75b and a P238. So I have a full size and two small barrel guns, so based on that would anyone recommend the 19 over the 17?

    Any input would be appreciated.

    Thank you

Based on what you already have, I would go the 19 route. If you like it, you can always get a 17 later.

I haven't shot a g17. The g19 shoots nice but does not fit my hand at all. I'd have to do some work to it to make me like it.

Absent the need for concealed carry, there is no practical reason to get a smaller, lighter version of an already fairly compact, light handgun.

Practical usage aspects aside, personally I feel the the more efficient package is more attractive. Since we're stuck at 10 rounds (for the nonce) anything that has a magazine bigger than required for 10 rounds seems unnecessary. All other things being equal, a bigger, heavier gun will be easier to control. Even though 10 is a sub-standard load for the 19, it's sized better for general use than the teenier Glocks. The smallest ones also had to have a lot more changes to the basic design than the 19 did.

But what do I know, my choice was a LW Commander. I just like the way it handles, responds & shoots better than a GM. If'n I wuz you, I'd get the 19.
I meant, it is my opinion that...

I've always been a full-size guy. G17 for me. G19 doesn't fit comfortably in my hands personally but it has with others.

I would go shoot them both and see which one is for one. Everyone's got their own feels.

I had to make the same decision. Went with choosing the glock 19. Best decision I ever made.

The size is perfect. Not too small but still has a full size persona.

                  G19 now, G34 in 30 days.

IMO, skip the G17 in the middle.

Depends on your hand size, but this is generally my recommendation as well.

Lots of feedback! Thanks everyone. I actually did shoot them both back when I got my first handgun (XD) and I was good with good with both of them.

I do not have large hands and the 19 just looks better to me based on the size. Both are available in OD green right now, which I haven't seen in stock at all before.

Don't think I've ever looked at any other glock other than the 19 or 17. Next on my list is a P226 and an AR kit for my lower.

it really comes down to what is more comfortable to you. at the end, spend plenty of range time with it and you will get acclimated.

G23, then you can get a conversion barrel mags and shoot .40 and 9mm

Whichever fits in your hand the best. That's the one for you
