Impressive, I would love to do this for my son once he's born. I need to start on a few before that one though. For myself. A commander and a government.

Can you gift an 80% to your child? I thought that was a big NO NO.

Just started a build for my daughter and planning another one for my second daughter. I can only hope they grow to love and appreciate them like I do.. I know the girls will take a lot more work than boys, but they're both daddy's girls, so I don't think it will be too difficult.

Great idea on the serial number though! I'll be taking that!

Beautiful work! I'm debating on that melonite finish, and these pictures just bumped that decision up a few notches! Great work!

                  Very nicely done.

I see you went with a traditional Bobtail MSH. Can you show a little detail on how thst came out? I imagine a bit of blending had to happen.

My guess is I will give it to him when he gets married, he will then sell it for part of a downpayment on a house, then I will cry and punch him in the nuts for being dumb.

I then sent the 1911 off to Fusion to be coated with their melonite finish and some custom work. And wow did they do a great job!

This is what the finished 1911 looks like now!

Epic build my friend well done.
I'm also interested in the parts/process you used to complete the build, as well as any issued you encountered. I assume the bobbed frame was from Fusion?

I think you are getting home built laws confused with RAW laws.

Very nice OP. Congrats for your son, and the great piece of functional art you made for him.

One thing I didn't realize with this frame until I received it, it's a round butt bobtail frame. Some people may like this but I don't care for it... and I couldn't just cut it straight as that would interfere with the MSH pin. I like the flat back bobtail look or what seems to be more the "traditional" style. With using a regular bobtail MSH it took some what seemed like a lot of blending to make it look natural. But I'm very happy with how it looks now. We left for a family trip today but I'll take photos of the MSH and show them when we get back home.

With the gun all black it's hard to see much of the details with that lighting and just my iPhone camera haha

I saw you did a great job with it. But I was actually thinking of doing the same thing when I was considering a round bob like that. I believe there is a name for it, but I can't remember what it is. In any case, because I had considered it, I was excited to see someone actually do it and that is where my interest comes from. I just want to see how it ended up blending.

So I will definitely appreciate pics.

That's awesome you're building one for each of them! I wasn't sure about the melonite finish at first either. It was between the melonite or Ion Bond. But after talking with Bob at Fusion I went with the melonite and very happy with the finish and the color of the black. Only time and use will tell how well the finish holds up tho.

I knew I wanted the serial number to be that the whole time. And definitely shows this is for him.

That's awesome! I think handing down any type of firearm is cool! Another good one is a 10/22, something they can shoot all day and not break the bank.
