the original owner changed the magwell as well, from what i saw in the pics and in person today it was a steel magwell with chainlinks. I've read the factory magwell is made of plastic? He included an extra mag, but a 3rd would be nice and im looking at the 47D. Why do you think the factory mags of kimber suck?

There isn't a factory magwell, but it's true that the MSH is plastic. The chain link pattern sounds like it may be an Ed Brown Customs MSH/magwell. I looked into the Ed Brown but ended up going with Wilson Combat. The factory mags seem cheap and flimsy compared to the Wilson 47Ds and ETM 500s. They also have a very thin and flat baseplate which makes them complicated to seat with a flared magwell. The Wilsons pop right in and are very fast. I bought 8 47Ds and 8 ETM 500s and use them in other 1911s with no problem (Sig, Springfield Loaded, etc).the original owner changed the magwell as well, from what i saw in the pics and in person today it was a steel magwell with chainlinks. I am not a fan of railed 1911 pistols but I think yours looks cool. The Hard chrome is awesome and your grips with the stars&strips sets it off for me. What a nice 1911 acquisition you have there. I would be proud to own that handgun.Comment

Thank you!
No doubt. That there is a real unicorn, I've only seen one other 9mm full rail Pro model. Would love to shoot it. I was glad to see he was in San Diego when I first saw his post. Not sure I would be able to resist if he was local to me.Comment

Have you seen how badass a black half-rail TRP with a Surefire X300 looks? If you want classic lines buy the GI model for all of your purity, but if you want true contemporary firearm sexiness - a mix of classic and new tech/styling, this is what it's all about.Comment

I am a 1911 purist (as in no rail).
Why do you folks with 1911 rails always post your pistols with nothing hanging from the rail? Is it just a macho wannabe thing, or is it just the latest bling thing?
I am 64 and the basic Government Model 5" is good enough for any work I need. I think you folks have more money than you know what to do with regarding your fancy pistols.
I have had (since 1992) a refined AMT Hardballer .45 ACP (let's see if anyone can pick out the mods) that will do any SD/HD/truck duty I need to be done. The barrel has been throated to use most any ammo you can stuff into it. I rarely hear anyone on this forum talk about functional pistols. It is all about looks on this forum, IMO, and also who has the prettiest gun. Mine is not pretty at all, but it runs, and runs well. Probably better than your NIB pretty safe queens.

Flame on.

Macho wannabe? Come on now. I collect and shoot 1911's. I like the look of the full rail and I appreciate the extra weight when shooting away at the range. Mine will never have anything hanging on the rail. Had I had the option to buy one with the full length frame without the picatinny cuts (like the monolith) I would have.
Why do people like you only seem to be bothered by railed 1911's that don't have a light or laser mounted on them? I hear it all the time but never hear the same being said for the endless number of polymer guns with empty picatinny rails.
Nice 1911 by the way.Comment

What's wrong with appreciating a gun's looks as well as its function? Are you implying that a half rail TRP does not function well and that it's sole purpose is to look good for marketing?
There's also nothing wrong with lights and lasers. There's a use for them and they're not just for looks. Ask any officer that uses such devices.
Appreciating a guns classic, unadulterated looks is one thing, criticizing an obviously useful implement based on your own resistance to change is just being a grumpy old person that hates change.
And yeah, you have your opinion, and I have mine. Mine is that you're grumpy.. And old.
Now someone put up a picture of a sexy *** TRP with a light in it

Piss 1911 purists off by getting a Railed Sig 1911.Comment

No flames from me, to each their own. But if you're such a purist, then what's up with the adj. sight and extended slide release????
And what is that thing on the right side? Is that a belt clip or money clip?
I mean, you can't be 1/2 purist or purist only towards certain aspects of the gun. It's either all or none.
You know I'm only messing with you?Last edited by skosh69; 03-31-2017, 9:42 PM.Comment
