    Full Rail on 1911

I'm fairly new about the kinds of guns that are out there and the different models/styles but one type that caught my eye was a fully railed 1911. Something about the beefiness just reminds me of a robocop-esk type of handgun and i love it. I looked into the SA TRP, i also saw Rock Island has one but thats all i could find. Is this not an attractive look for a 1911 or do most people just want to keep the gun in its classic configuration and anything else is atrocious?

Also i couldn't find many pics on a stainless steel 1911 with a full picatinny rail, closest was a magnum. what's the deal people, do you guys really think it'd look terrible to have a stainless steel full rail 1911?

Damn looks pretty cool! Is hard chroming an already full railed 1911 the only option or can custom shops add a rail to one that doesnt have one?

I would love to have a quality 1911 and when I get one, it will have a rail.

I would say hard chrome an existing railed 1911 is the best way to go. These guys do great work.

A lot of custom shops outsource to them. Very affordable especially if you send them a stripped gun and put it back together yourself.

They hard chromed one of my Nighthawks and also undercut the trigger guard while it was there. It came out very nice. They do more than just plating.

I like the traditional looks of a 1911, but I would love full railed one. The only person who can decide if it's right for you, is you.

I can see the appeal, probably not for me, well at least not right now. I am torn when I do decide to get a nice 1911 to go classic non-rail or one with a rail. I like the utilitarian design of the rail but Ive really never used a rail on any handguns I own, the option is nice though.

My opinion, get them all! Not like you are going to stick with one gun for the rest of your life.

Many 1911 purists do not like the rails, half or full. I like to have variety within my collection so I have both.

With that said, I love the full rail TRP. The added weight really makes it fun to shoot. They don't make a stainless one but you can get it hard chromed as already mentioned. That's what I did. Mine was sent to Springfield for some custom work and refinishing but right now their custom shop is closed until further notice.

If you want stainless, I would suggest buying the Dan Wesson Specialist. It's only a half rail but still gives you some added weight and it's a great shooting gun as well. SIG also makes a stainless half rail 1911.

Here's my full rail hard chromed TRP...

I don't see myself hanging anything from my 1911's so why spoil the beauty of it's classic lines with a rail?

For the added weight which makes getting follow-up shots on target very quick and easy. And also to add some variety to your 1911 collection.

I guess I just don't get those who like to have all matching style 1911's.

Trp full rail was my first handgun , purchased about a year ago. I thought it would be first and last gun. I researched for years to make the right decision. I now have way more than 1....

I was only speaking for myself. If you like a rail on a 1911 you should certainly get what you like. I wouldn't mind something like Les Baer's Monolith, has weight out front with clean lines.

My only problem with this is that it's gonna be expensive as fudge. TRPs run about 1300-1400 then to hard chrome it a couple hundred.

The next lowest costing full rail 1911 is by rock island for >700, haven't seen one of those hard chromed.
