    Revolvers are not pistols

pistol nouna handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel
Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.

It's very loud, I wouldn't want to shoot it indoors without hearing protection!
Over penetration vs stopping power, I'd stick with a .45ACP. The 5-7 doesn't seem like the best option, but still an excellent choice. Considering it's extremely reliable, high quality, accurate, long effective range, light weight, Etc.
It's a phenomenal weapon that fills a unique roll!

The grip is indeed huge not because of the 20 round magazine. While yes it's long to accommodate the 20 round compacity, it's wide due to the cartridge length. The 5.7x28mm is a carbine cartridge.

In a day and age where people still argue that the 9mm is too weak to reliably be used for self defense you ask if a glorified .22 WMR is a good choice?

People that use the 5.7x28 professionally do so knowing they have 50 round mags and can hold down the trigger and make a figure 8 pattern on a silhouette target.

A 10 round mag 5.7 pistol seems like a bad choice for self defense if you have access to anything 9mm or bigger.

Sure, Hemingway opined "Now standing in one corner of a boxing ring with a .22 caliber Colt automatic pistol, shooting a bullet weighing only 40 grains and with a striking energy of 51 foot pounds at 25 feet from the muzzle, I will guarantee to kill either Gene or Joe Louis before they get to me from the opposite corner.", but are you Hemingway?

Get a 5.7 - it will stress out Feinstein and shorten her life.

The anti-gun groups singled out 5.7 and .500 Magnum for their attack on the "socially unacceptable" calibers. That's good enough reason for me to own both, which I do.

5.7 is a great round and is as suitable for self defense as any other standard modern caliber. As for your carry, check out to see whether 5.7 is an exception to the rule. I know that at certain matches 5.7 is explicitly allowed even though it has less than 9mm diameter bullet. It has to do with terminal ballistics.

For those that think the round is weak, the Fort Hood shooter killed 13 people with an FN 5.7.

I only hit headshots.. so answer is Yes .

I got mine a few weeks ago. Love it. Easy to load. Dead accurate. And really light. Gone through almost 1500 bullets of ss197sr no issues.

Yes it is more expensive to shoot and yes it's a more expensive gun. I am on the lucky spectrum that I can afford it, and it's a definite keeper. The thing is.. everyone will have an opinion on how you should spend your money. But reality is, if you love it, and put in adequate range time to be good with the gun, then to be honest anything can be a self defense choice.

But if you are shooting at things with body armor, I would suggest using a rifle lol.
But that's ONLY if your shooting at things with body armor right?

I say the cartridge is appropriate.

I only shot the pistol once though and it was snappy, not really in a recoil way but loud like someone else mentioned and that fireball at the muzzle really threw me off.

NAA should make a mini for it!

It is just a .22 caliber round with a small bullet. It depends upon your projectile profile, and 1800 FPS matters less than squat. You may be over penetrating the target with no expansion.

A subsonic .45 ACP HP will make a bigger hole in the body, with a bigger blood channel, and, realistically, how many people are going to assault you wearing body armor?

First shot is to the chest (center of mass) to stop, and the next one is to the head. Most home defense gunfights are conducted at 7 yards or less, so all one has to do is point and focus on the front sight. Forget the rear sight.

For HD, no one needs any more than a .45/.40/9mm/.38 Super.

It all has to do with the combat mindset, and one must take that into consideration, no matter the weapon.

Your .22 is a toy as a primary weapon insofar as any manner of serious defense is concerned. I would much rather address an adversary with my 1911 .22 shooting LR ammo as a secondary arm if my 1911 .45 ACP went to junk, for whatever reason.

You might want to rethink your scenario.

                        Have a good night!

That 57 is accurate to 100 yards with 22mag recoil.

                          FN 57 FTW !

I think that settles it. I pretty much NEED to get a Five-Seven, but I should probably relegate it to just a range toy and keep using my 9/45/10's for defense since the 57 doesn't really do much that those can't do unless the bad guy is 100 yards away (In which case, I probably shouldn't be shooting at them)
