^I totally agree there which is why I didn't buy the 5.7 until I had 6 or 7 other pistols in other, more common and readily available calibers. But the original poster asked about the pistol as his first, so I thought the ammo availability and price could be an issue. I know even at good case prices(~$700/delivered/2,000 rounds), 5.7x28 ammo is about $0.35 cents a round....that isn't cheap. Couple the price with the fact that you don't have the convenience of running down to WalMart and buying a couple boxes for weekend plinking with friends, and it may be a slight turn-off...as a first gun especially.

All that said I definitely love mine, but I just think it's a pretty poor choice as a first pistol.

Yeah, a convenience like that would be nice - but I reload the round so it's not a big deal.

What if you don't have the funds to own many guns in your life time. Maybe just one or two. Its like having a hot girlfriend you can got with the super hot one thats a bit of a maintenance issue or just a okay one that just does it...

Never settle for "good enough".

I've never understood the concept of the high price of ammo. To cut costs learn to reload. If that's too much of a chore then find a hobby that's more in line with your income. I don't run a "top fuel" car cuz I can't afford $ 50,000 a month for a hobby. Wonder if Gene or Ben would subsidise me?

A boy's first gun ought to be a .22lr rifle. Followed by a .22lr handgun.
Then you can spend 2 cents a round LEARNING HOW TO SHOOT WELL AND ACCURATELY.

Do this, instead of buying some FPS videogame / Anime cannon or caliber oddity whose ammo is so expensive that you won't ever shoot it enough to be good with it.

Then buy a good defensive pistol, shotgun, a milsurp rifle, a hard-hitting semi-auto rifle or bolt action, THEN go piss away your money on that .50 Deagle, FN 5.7, Beowulf AR, 6.8 garbage, .357sig anything, etc.

Well I don't have a list I pretty much own everything I want. When something does get on the list I just buy it.

Sweetest looking gun. fun to shoot...but i couldn't shoot worth S**t out of it. Used SS197 ammo, apparently it's loaded light, so all my shots were low. had to adjust the rear sights. I'm still not used to the trigger yet...and i can't afford the ammo to shoot it right now.

I think i've read somewhere, factory, they used SS195 (28gr??) for zeroing @ 25yrds. so that's why my light loaded 40gr was goin low. Haven't tried elite ammo yet...but from what i've heard, that's the best $$ can buy, unless if u can get the LEO/military ammo, which is ridiculously priced too.

overall, as much as i suck with the 5-7, i still love it...just need more practice and $$...lol

I wouldn't recommend it as a 1st handgun...but if that's what you really want, then get it n be happy!

PS, i think lowriderryda, had some SS197 for sale, really good deal too, best i've seen online. dunno if he's got any left though.

I don't think lowriderryda is a boy any longer...maybe that's why he got the 5-7?

I've shot my friend's and it's fun. Recoil feels similar to 9mm to me, but more "snappy", I would call it. I would acredit that to the poly frame. It's also fun to punch tiny little holes in the black part of the target and not be able to see them...

But I personally would not suggest it for a first pistol. It shoots fine, but it will be expensive to learn with, and the two main points of this pistol's existence are nullified in CA, being IMO the ability to hold 20 rounds in a mag and share ammunition with a PS90. I know you could buy a PS90, but I also think of that as rather pointless considering the limitations on mag size.

Cool gun and fun to have, but not until somewhere down the line. Start with a .22lr or 9mm and I think you'll be happier for the beginning.

Yes no longer a boy stepped it from those training wheels. Five Seven fun gun to shoot.... Get a FN-9 you can get one for around $500.

Just curious how come no other company has built a handgun around this round? Figure Glock could build a similiar polymer framed pistol and sell it for half the price. Glock already has the .357 sig pistol.

buy it before it gets banned. expensive to shoot but if you like it dont think twice.
