A lot of people would stock pile tanfos on here if they were on the roster or available. I would probably forego several of my cz acquisitions if the comparable tanfo was available at standard non commiefornia prices.Just a libertarian guy in a Leftist Authoritarian state.

This thread is worthless without pictures so here are the 2 guns the OP is deciding between.

I wouldnt even consider a CZ if I could get any Tanfos I wanted.CRPA and NRA member.

I also throw a vote to the Tanfo; though, in full disclosure, I have not shot the SP-01, only the P-01. I'm sure you have your mind set on these ones and they're both great guns (from what I hear on the CZ), but to throw a third, have you heard of the new Bersa Thunder Pro XT 9mm? I recently got one and I love it. Most accurate 9mm I've ever fired.Comment

HAHA you know, it does look better in person... But, I'd be a liar if I said the aesthetics were its best selling point; it's definitely not the prettiest gun I own. If you throw looks into it, I extra vote for the Tanfo - I think it's beautiful. Then again, you can take my opinions on visuals with a grain of salt as I think the 92FS is the best looking modern semi-auto 9mm handgun ever made...Comment

I've noticed that there are basically a handful of people that even knows the Tanfoglio brand. Most threads with Tanfoglio have very little response or views compared to any thread with Glock or 1911 in the title. The only reason why there are more interest in this thread is because of the CZ SP-01. A couple of years ago, people didn't care or know what a CZ was either.
To answer the OP's question, you should definitely get a Tanfoglio Witness Elite Match. Very accurate and soft shooter. Better fit and finish. Already has a single action trigger. You can always upgrade just like a CZ but I doubt you will need to. All I did was change out the front sight to fiber optic and it's good to go. You will thank me later.Comment

I just bought a CZ Match Elite in 9mm with a 22 conversion unit, new via PPT (from BAGV in Mountain View) and having shot a friend's CZ Tactical Sport often - the EAA SA trigger is much better. Smoother, no creep and lighter. Comparing the SA EAA to a DA CZ 75 is apples & oranges. The EAA frame is larger, the CZ 75 frame is nearly the same as the older EAAs. I have a TA90 in 9mm & 41AE and it uses the same mags as the 75. I'm pretty sure Match Elite and TS use the same mags.
The first "CZ style" pistol I bought was a CZ97B. I still have it and keep it as the "house gun". I suppose because of this, and because CZ has a presence in CA while Tanfoglio doesn't, made me think the EAA wasn't as good a product. I think it is as good and in some respects, such as finish, better than the CZ.GOA Member & SAF Life MemberComment

I guess you get messages when you don't expect it. I had my two Tanfoglio pistols (Elite Match in 9mm and 45) on the trading block. After careful thought and with the help of this thread (thanks OP!), I decided to hold on to them.
Then it got me into looking at other Tanfoglio pistols. Now I need to find a way to legally acquire some of them. Freakin' CalGunners, lol!One Way to Post Pics ********** How to Submit an iTrader Rating That Counts ********** Brass for Sale

So I bought the Tanfoglio and am quite pleased with it. There's a few things that could be better but it's definitely superior (in my eyes) to the SP01.
It's a big gun, similar in size to a government model 1911. It's a little more ergonomic in the grip but also fatter than the 1911. Weight is similar but ammo capacity is 17+1. The same gun in 45 ACP is 10+1.
Fit and finish is excellent. I'm not really a fan of two tone guns but I think it looks very nice. The stock grips suck. They are ugly and have thumb rests (probably for import points?) that interfere with my hand placement. I'm going to replace them with some walnut grips when I get around to it.
The trigger is quite good but not quite excellent. When I dry fired it, I thought that the take up was too long, the reset was too long, and the break was too hard. After firing it, I still think the break is just a bit too hard and would be perfect if it was maybe a pound or two less but the takeup and reset are fine. I shot it side by side with a Sar K2 45ACP (very similar guns) which I thought had a pretty good single action trigger but it's not in the same league as the Tanfo.
Accuracy was excellent. I shot it alongside the Sar K2 and a Springfield 1911 Loaded (with trigger job) and found it at least as good as the Springfield and substantially better than the K2. In addition to the good trigger, it also has very good sights. The sights are plain black target sights similar to a Ruger MK target pistol. For my use (informal range gun), they are perfect although they wouldn't be a good choice for action type shooting.Check back later for a witty comment.Comment

Congrats on your Tanfoglio purchase. You are lucky to be able to purchase one with standard capacity mags. Enjoy.Comment
