Yes, I know that the Tanfo is off-roster but this is a pretty active handgun site and there are a lot of members who compete and may be familiar with the Elite Match. I'm no longer a CA resident so the roster is not an issue for me.
I'm interested in a full size, CZ style 9mm pistol and am considering a CZ SP01 or a Tanfoglio Elite Match. When the Elite Match was $600 it was a pretty easy choice but now they are about $700 versus $650 for the CZ. This would be strictly a range gun and will not be used for defense or competition.
I really want a 1911 in 9mm that's not a 1911. I want a crisp trigger and good accuracy. The problem is that the Tanfoglio is simply unavailable in gun stores for a side by side comparison. I've handled the SP01 and it has an okay, but not great trigger. Obviously, I could spend a couple hundred extra and get a great trigger (and convert to SAO) but how does the stock trigger on an Elite Match compare? If the trigger isn't excellent, there really isn't any value to the Tanfo over a SP01.
Are stock Elite Matches good to go or should I just spend the extra cash to buy and upgrade a SP01?
