My issue with Sig

Nearly once a week I get to read about how awesome Sig Sauer is... I always pause and ask why folks think this and I always get the same answers... They are "tight", quality is awesome, they shoot, they are comfortable, etc...

I try my best not to knock them as I get it, I may have had some lemons over the years... I really can only think of two Sigs I have actually liked... a Blackwater P226 and a P210... all the others, not good. Weather thats poor finish on them, poorly fit, metal warping (yes you read that right), or just poor quality all around... I cant get behind them. BTW, I still own my P210 and really love it.

Today while at one of the local shops... I was helping behind the counter and one of the local CERT (local swat team) guys came in... He carries a Tac-Ops Sig 1911 (again, all I hear is how great Sig 1911's are). He asked me to take a look at a few things as his magazine was not functioning correctly and rounds were not feeding properly on his 1911...

Well... I figured out fairly quickly what one of his issue was.

Again... this is the type of crap I am talking about with Sig... Ive seen it many many times... and sadly one of the times is going to be when someone actually needs a flawless functioning pistol... All three of his mags were like this.. smh

This is at least the 5th time I have seen this with mags...

If its not the mags, its the slide not locking back on the last round, or the thing will not feed hollow points, or a thumb safety cracks, or a slide stop cracks, or blah...

I have seen it a lot...

I personally have moved away from the brand. I have been asked many times to show what I mean... well the video shows "what I mean".

Can't speak for their 1911s or any of their other guns but what I can say is that my P226 Navy and MK 25 have both run flawlessly and are as accurate as hell. The Navy- which I've taken overseas and run through all sorts of conditions- is going on over 12K rounds now and runs like a tack driver. YMMV.

The mags that came with my sig 1911 aren't great either. Just buy some Willsons and call it a day

I just think they're the absolute ugliest guns I've ever seen, bar none. I literally cringe when I see them. Always have. I don't know what it is. The bent sheetmetal trigger that looks like they took it off of a 1950s capgun? The slide that's three stories tall? The railroad-tracks on the side of the gun for the decocker?

Sig uses checkmate mags, they don't manufacturer magazines.

Keeping an open mind, I went and pull all my Sigs and check the magazines. All is well, except the Sig Mosquito; it wiggles a little but no slide. I also have CZ, Glock, S&W, and others; they're great guns...but there's something about the Sigs. If you look at the Glock, CZ, S&W (revolver & performance center) long enough, it's not hard to appreciate their aesthetic. I don't shoot a lot, and the only guns I have had issue with is the .22 Mosquito. I like the Sigs, a lot!

No problems with any of my sig mags...none of them do what was showed in the video.

As for the slide not locking back, I have experienced that a few times. But it's my own fault as I have a tendency to ride the slide release with my thumb.

Sig Sauer 1911's are not a true judge of whether a Sig Sauer P series gun is any good. Sig 1911's are mostly just thrown together guns that start as a pretty tight matched slide and frame. The rest of the parts are not "fit" like a $1000 pistol and they switched to MIM parts. They do have a bunch of fancy extras for the price point though. Well worth two RIA 1911's.

If a person is in the market for a DA/SA exposed hammer "no safety" pistol then the P Series Sigs (P226, P229, P220, P239, P228) are nearly perfect.
A Sig P226 sits on my nightstand each night.

I got a Sig TTT for a while now and it's been 100% whenever I take her for a spin. The Sig P320 full size I have is top notch and I really like the accuracy. When I get my MCX I'll let you know how I like that.

I am a big Sig fan, have at least ten now. That said I would not buy one of their 1911s. C'mon man if you want a 1911 buy one from a 1911 maker, and if you are an operator spend the money on at least a TRP if not a Professional or better.

If it says "Made in Germany" on it, thats the greatness you've been hearing about.

If it says "Made in USA", thats a different story.
