Yes, you are quite right. OP, I'll give your dad $100 just to alleviate his sadness. You can do a lot of things with 100 bucks ya know.

Not as bad as it looks. It should clean up easily. My concern would be any rusted internal springs.

Take it apart, clean and polish all parts, replace any springs and you should be good to go.

As for cleaning it will be a multi step process starting with a good cleaning, and oiling. Then onto some light sanding or polishing depending on condition after cleaning and oiling.

Some Mothers polish and you will have a mirror shine.

          Good Luck...Save that snake gun...

Had a non-safed Remington 870 Wingmaster go that way during my reef tank days. Posted a thread about it here in my very early days. Never had it restored but it's my under-the-couch-gun for home defense.

Hope it can be cleaned up! Does you Dad keep fish?

that happened in a safe??? I keep the majority of my firearms under a bed cabinet. when I shoot them I clean the crap out of them and completely cover that thing in oil.

It was kept in a safe in the garage. I'm guessing all the rain we got did it in. It was fine 6 months ago.

In that case I would move the safe and clean and oil everything the python can be saved as long as the rust didnt eat the barrel. its not going to be pretty but the python can live to shoot another day.

This is why I vacuum seal guns I don't plan on using for a while. Even if the safe was submerged, I think they would come out ok. I think the Python can be saved with minimal work, at least the stainless parts. The steel parts like the sight, hammer and trigger might be left with a few marks.

if it is structurally sound... just shoot the crap out of it and don't worry about scratches....

Oh crap... If it is stainless maybe the fix won't be too $$$. Hope there isn't any rust on the internals.
