Help save my dads Python. WARNING graphic images

This is the most painful thing I think ive ever seen. Took my dad shooting and he wanted to take out his colt Python that he hasn't shot in a good year. He bought it brand new and has always maintained it and shot it very little.

He took it out of the safe and it was covered in rust... I wiped is down the best I could and oiled it up. Is there anyone that can restore this? It is my inheratance after all... Not to mention my dads crushed soul when he showed it to me.

I just cried inside. That's a damn shame. Good luck restoring it.

I can't tell--- but if it is stainless it could probably be cleaned up---IF DONE
VERY CAREFULLY. If it is blue or nickel,it would be another matter. The
pitting is not real deep, how does the other side look? Pete

Ouch. Im sorry to see that. Are you planning to do the restoration yourself or have it done? I'd recommend having someone look at it and do the restoration. Maybe hard chrome it.
I'd rather be at the range!

It is stainless. Most rust came off with a rag and wd40. I don't know if anyone knows of a place that can polish it back to life.

That's scary - reminds me to check the de-humidifiers in my safes, and keep things wiped down with protectant.

Be careful how it gets fixed. I'm sure it can be fixed up just fine, but you know how these things go - a bad resto job can kill value more than if you just left the gun rusty looking.

I'd have it bead blasted to remove the pitting and then polish it.

I have had people tell me that those Mr. Clean Erasers work magic on rusted weapons. I haven't tried it myself but have been told that used with just some basic oil and the eraser they do wonders.

Any details about how it was stored OP? Maybe we can at least learn from this. Was it in a safe? Did you have any dehumidifier and/or temp/humidity sensor inside?
