Going to cerakote for now. In the process of breaking down, stripping, and polishing. I'll post pics when it's done.

I was thinking about going with the standard black. Any other suggestions on colors/combinations? Would like to go with a color/combination that is in demand in case I decide to sell.

Here's one I found that looks nice (yes, I know not a Colt).

      Upgrades

BTW, while I have everything out, I was planning on some minor upgrades. I will replace the trigger with a metal unit, was thinking about the hammer but I can just bob that, and possibly a larger beavertail.

      Thoughts?

      Thanks

Black Is a good color, put a short trigger and a extended BT, with some operator 2s. Or some 320VZs

you should probably keep it. you'll never be able to buy it again for that . besides it a real one. if its not a Colt its a copy
Keep it unless you are hurting for cash. Everyone needs a Colt 1911 in their collection. Even low end ones.

Not hurting for cash, just don't use it much. I'll make it pretty and then decide :-)

Going to get her cerekoted graphite black. Will be replacing/enhancing: short trigger, hammer, beavertail, and grips.

We'll see how it turns out.

                Thanks anyway for your opinion.
It hasn't been discontinued or is suddenly rare or anything... it's just off the roster. Outside of Kalifornistan it's worth.... $600-$700.... maybe...

Are you sure it's not just as good or better than a Les Baer?

Can you provide for me a quantitative, measurable criterion that says it's not?

Considering that for what guys are asking for Series 80 Colts on the marketplace these days I could run down to Turner's and pick up a Baer...

This is a tough call for lots of Colt lovers. My personal opinion is the Baer is better. But I don't want to give up my Colt either. I wouldn't trade it for a Baer because I'd just want another Colt and can't buy one new in CA, but I can buy a new Baer in CA.

If it just sits in the safe and you haven't shot it in 3-4 months I would've just left it alone. It's already just a cheap standard 1911 and removing the finish and all the stuff your doing will just devalue it more. I just like to keep my 1911's In its original factory form and if I do plan on selling it later, if I get my money back I'm good. But it does look like You've got big plans for that pistol now. Good luck and show us the finished product later Op :-)

If Colt was good at making 1911's they all wouldn't have fallen off the list.

That particular model and make of 1911 is in the "meh..........." category of 1911's so it's going to be priced along those lines.
