I do not think your customer base for a 1991 will not be any Colt collector. A comparable Springfield 1911 Mil-Spec is 700 retail, and of course lower for market/sale prices.

    -Finish removed -~$150 to refinish.
-Home polish -~$50 new internals installed (up and down some, depending what was polished), but labor for a smith is not low cost.

+$ on your accessories, grips and one magazine really have no up value (you are better off on ebay for those), but I will say $10 for the grips (need to find a customer with the same taste or they are worthless/low value) and $15 for the magazine (depends on brand - Springfield also comes with 2 already), 240 of Tula .25 per round is +$60, +$18 for the JHP.

So, *retail Mil-Spec $700 -$150 refinish -$50 internals -10%/$70 used = $430 just for a comparable gun with no work needed, *plus no one buys retail.
    +$10 grips +$15 extra magazine +$78 ammo = $533.

I have no interest in a 1991 (I am just bored tonight), but I really think the parkerized removal will hurt any high expectations off roster or not.

    Good luck with sale.

Wait a minute, you removed the parkerized finish? You know that is to protect the steel from rusting...

Good idea. Just shoot the heck out of it and have fun with it. If the honest market value is down in the $5-600 range, you can't get a replacement 1911 for that ammount. Even if you get a used one at that price, you don't know if you're buying someone else's problems.

Keep a thin coat of oil on it, at least keep the outside cleaned and oiled after each session and enjoy it.

              Yup.

The removal of the park - not to be rude about it, but... - appears to have been done in a half arsed manner. The unevenness of the exterior finish would give me pause about any internal polishing. Home gun smithing has definitely reduced the value of the pistol by 100s of dollars.

The pistol has no collector value, and is going to require refinishing and possibly internal parts. Maybe someone out there is looking for a base Colt for customization...

BTW, just received an offer of $500 - that's basically $375 for the gun. It amazes me how bold and insulting people can be when they're hiding behind a screen.
                OP,

I know you are not talking about me^^^^^^

I just send you an offer, please check on it.

I just sold an UNFIRED (pristine unmolested w/ all the new paraphernalia and factory case) stainless, 6 inch Ruger GP 100, with 150 rounds of factory fresh ammo------for the same price I am offering for your gun.

No wasn't talking about you :-)

Just replied to your PM. After all of the comments, I have decided to strip and refinish. I'm going to perform the labor to get her down to bare metal and will then have it professionally finished. (I wasn't going to do it, but thought she deserved some love).

So far, the slide and upper internals are out including the firing pin and associated parts. Used vinegar to loosen the finish and a wet sanding sponge (very high grit) to remove the parkerization. The barrel looks AWESOME. The slide is 1/2 done. Frame will be next :-)

You should have added a $100 premium to the price when listing it. You're gonna need it to take the little woman out for a nice make up dinner if she finds out that you had gun parts all over the comforter GLWTS.

Didn't completely remove, just wet sanded so it was a little smoother. But NOW, it's all coming off.

You should cerakote the gun. You would probably be able to up the price.

Started to refinish. I'll create another post with pics and process. Did the barrel and it looks great!

I will probably end up cerakoting the gun. Been sanding and polishing, and there are just too many little nooks and crannies to do a proper blue job. If anybody knows of a good cerakote company, please let me know.

                              Thanks

Just an advice: Hold on to it!
Colt 1911's will no longer be in the CA Roster.
