I've got an xd9 4" Service model and I absolutely love it.

Nothing feels better in your hands than a CZ 75 SP-01. Great gun that can be sent out to Cajun Gun Works, CZ Customs or Automatic Accuracy for upgrades and turn it into an awesome gun.

Well there aren't any bad choices on your list, but in my experience while other guns will do fine, if your top priority firearm-wise is self defense you will eventually want to scratch the polymer framed/striker fired itch. In 2015/2016 California this means Glock or an XD.

              A Glock 19 is a great all-around choice.

You can learn to shoot the DA/SA guns very well with time.

                But, why bother?

So many great guns without this handicap ...

Get thee to a range and try out the top contenders.

As others have said, grip fit and feel are important considerations, but they are not a substitute for a consistent trigger ...

If you have to replace or alter the trigger of a new gun, with the possible exception of a 1911, you bought the wrong gun...

2- The takedown lever on the XD models are in a bad spot for me, don't like my support thumb resting on it
Had an XD9 Tactical. Wanted to like it. Did all the upgrades. Felt comfortable in the hand, was accurate enough.

Found out I shot Glocks better. Not sure why. Sold the XD, got no use for guns I don't shoot.

Glocks are cheaper to upgrade and don't need cleaning very often. When you do clean them, it's quick and easy. Hard not to like that.

                    I have owned a Berreta 92fs, Glock 34, and CZ SP-01.

For a range gun, the Glock 34 is great fun. Great reliability. Easy to clean (yes, I clean my Glock every time I go to the range!) Very easy to fully disassemble and has great after market support products.

If you want to step up your game, the CZ SP-01 is also very nice. Has awesome SA trigger! To make it great (ease the DA/SA difference) then CGW, CZ Customs, and Automatic Accuracy can all provide great upgrades. But for this, be ready to open up the wallet!

I agree with all that said you must try them yourself on the range to know for sure.

I shot it well and it felt pretty good in my hand. I still think they are fine pistols, and I would bet my life on them. I just prefer Glock.

As comfortable as they are, and as many people as there out there who just don't want a Glock for whatever reason, I'm surprised they (XDs) didn't gain a better following. M&P took off when they were introduced. Go figure...

The subjective elements are the big decider for me. All of us are pretty much on our own for this part of the selection process. The 9mm isn't a thunder-and-lightning caliber with dogmatic recoil to manage, but how a sidearm feels in the hand will STRONGLY affect both your enjoyment of the investment and your utility with it. I recently "passed" on a SIG P-239 x 40 S&W because the grip was too ^%*$ short for my big ol' paws.

It is very hard to argue against the cost/benefit equation of the Glock system. They WORK. They seldom (if ever) break. They are affordable. There is a huge pool of factory-certified armorers already in place to service them. Only the AR-15 is more of a Barbie Doll as far as aftermarket goodies are concerned to accessorize the pistol with. I gave my Glock 23 to one of our daughters a while back, and see another in my future soon, now that I've learned a SIG 239 is a little too compact for CCW.

Rent some examples--shoot them--see what ya like.

I think the OP already made his decision , but I have the CZ and love how it feels. My XD shoots best for me, though - very accurate.

Glock....the only choice. Reliability, ease of maintenance, simplicity and value.
