9mm Choice?

Check out the Sig p226, rent one for an afternoon if you can.

Just go buy a new, standard model Sig 226 and save all the rental fees.

For every shooter that started with Sig 226s and when to a Glock, there are 300 Glock shooters that went to Sig. There comes a time when the choice is abundantly clear and the odds are stacked high in your favor.

An afternoon at a range with a good rental counter will probably give you better feedback than anything we can tell you.

That said, you have a bit of apples and oranges going on here. You need to first decide between striker fired polymer and SA/DA steel pistols. Again, renting a few of each might help a lot.

As far a polymer guns go, between Glock, M&P and the XD there are no bad choices. Pick whichever one feels better in your hand and go with that. They are all solid choices.

As for SA/DA steel guns, I'd look at the Sig P226 and Beretta 92 in addition to the CZ. My first choice would be the Sig. But like the polymers, there are no bad choices with these three.

Glock 34 awesome gun for range and duty carry as well.
Glock 17 also solid choice...easier to carry than 34 if you carry for living (getting in and out vehicle wise due to smaller hospital).

Can't go wrong with G19 for overall firearm (duty, cc, range, hd, and recreation as well).

With pistols, it's very important to find one that fits your hand like a glove. Go and try the ones you like and see which one fits you like a glove.

With the guns you have I'd give a lot of consideration to the CZ. XD is a great gun as well.

It depends. You say between you and your family you have or have shot all these guns, but do you actually own any of them? If not I would go with the Glock 17. I think that everyone should have at least 1 primary very common gun, it's easy to find parts, magazines etc. If you already own one then I would lean towards the CZ 75 or maybe even look into a Browning Hi Power. Both very accurate and a lot of fun to shoot.

Whatever you decide, learn to shoot it as it is meant to be shot. If it's a SA/DA action, learn to shoot the first shot DA. If you ever carry the gun, you'll need to do this. And if you ever decide to get into the gun games, you'll also need to do this.

If you're not comfortable with the first shot in DA (and a lot of people aren't), I suggest one of the striker fired guns. Same trigger pull every time.

Of those on your list, Glocks are versatile, inexpensive, easy to shoot (consistent trigger), and have a great aftermarket.

CZs are nice, inexpensive, have a decent aftermarket, but have the DA/SA action. They can be tuned to have a nice light DA trigger, but it's still a longer, different pull than the SA. If you can master that, it's a great option.

XD is also a nice gun with all the attributes of a Glock. Slightly different grip.

Another option, not on your list is a 9mm 1911. More expensive than those listed above, but consistent trigger, great aftermarket and easy to shoot.

M&P is also a good gun, for all the reasons the Glock and XD are. A bit harder to come by lately since dropping off the list, but there's a bunch of them in state that can be had used.

I've never owned a Sig, so I have no opinion on them. They have a good reputation. DA/SA action if that matters to you.

I've never had the brass hitting the head issue you speak of, but everything I've read about it points to it being a technique issue more than a hardware issue. Some have the problem with Glocks, some with XDs, some with whatever gun they're shooting. Look at your technique and see if there are inconsistencies in your shooting style/stance/grip that may be causing it.

I ended up going with Glock over XD for two main reasons (had XD pistols first):

1- Glock easier to completely disassemble, always a plus for a guy like me

2- The takedown lever on the XD models are in a bad spot for me, don't like my support thumb resting on it

I'm gunna go +1 for glock 17 or 19. I think XDs and CZs are overrated. If you are just a casual range shooter a glock will serve you well and will outlive you. Hands down the gun I shoot the most and have the most fun with is my glock 19.

Rent a few see what you like, what I like and someone else like, you may hate. There are a lot of good choices, I am not a big glock fan boy I have them and they are good guns, easy to work on. Glock, CZ, Sig, S&W all make good pistols.

I have the XD, M&P, and the CZ 75 and love them all!
It all boils down to what feels the best for you.
If I could only have one, I don't know which one I would choose!
The CZ 75 is a pretty hot ticket now if you can get one at a reasonable price.
