First 9mm Suggestions

I've been looking into purchasing my first 9mm handgun. At this point I own a couple hunting rifles, shotguns, and a .22 pistol. Wanting to move up in caliber in the handgun department.

Because I've never purchased a 9mm, I could use some suggestions. I've been looking at the following guns...

Glock 19
Beretta PX4 Storm
Beretta M9

Any one have experience with these and any feedback?

out of these three, i would go with the 19.

Springfield XD is great for a first gun. Shoots great, has a grip safety unlike the Glock (safer for new user), shoots great, breaks down very simply in seconds. It is a simple and reliable gun. It is a pleasure to shoot!

Remember - the Seals use very specific tools for specific purposes. It is not likely you will be facing the same set of needs and purposes. So buy what suits your needs.

I once bought snorkeling gear that the Seals used. When my flippers came off the sank instead of floating - so I lost them. Turns out the Seals do not like flippers to give away their location, but recreational snorkelers like their flippers to float up to be recovered.

Think about gun features you want - not what the Seals want.

In no particular order...

All of these are quality firearms. So there's really no bad choices here. It comes down to personal preference.

You've got apples and oranges here...striker fired polymer gun vs SA/DA Steel gun. So maybe try to figure out what your preference is at a high level between those two types of platforms.

Now...as far as the striker fired guns go, if you're looking at Glock you should also look at Springfield XD and M&P. Those are the big three at least for striker fired polymer guns. There are others, of course (The PX4, and you could add HK, Walther and Sig P320 too).

For SA/DA guns, if you're looking at the Beretta you should really look at the Sig P226 too. Both are great guns. The Sig, however, is a tad bit smaller than the Beretta and that might be important if you're considering ever CCW'ing these guns.

My advice would be to find a range with a good rental counter and try as many of these as you can. You will sort out more in an afternoon than anything any of us can tell you. And it will be fun.

Were it me, I'd go with the M&P for a Striker gun and the Sig P226 for a SA/DA. And I own Glocks, Springfields and a Beretta 92. But again, there are no bad choices here.

Oh, and believe me, this isn't, "which gun to get," it's "which gun to get FIRST."

Went to the range this weekend and tried out a G17, G19, Springfield XD, and PX4. I think my top 2 were the 19 and XD. Thanks for the suggestions. I would have never tried the XD if it weren't for this thread.

Your list is all good choices and I'd throw in one of the CZs to consider.

The Glock 19 is fine, but I think it's 'one size fits all' reputation is over rated. I prefer the G17/G34 size.

Lucky for you all your choices are easy to find at rental ranges.

edit - just caught up with your last post saying to did test them all ... Decided yet?

Take a look at cz too! 75b, sp01 or the p01 are all great 9mms!

Yes they are, and I have 2 of those 3, but I'm glad I didn't get the CZ's first.

The Springfield XD Series is a good 9 millimeter to start off with as well. It comes with a lot of goodies in the XD gear that comes with it, and it's a great platform that you'll get most of your money back out if you decide to sell it and change it out for something different.

Sig 2022 won't break your bank and is well worth it

I agree, the SP2022 is another great option, especially for your first 9mm.
