Firearms is totally a personal preference deal. I've bought and sold plenty so I went through my fair share to understand what I like and don't like in each gun. What I learned is that high value does not always mean high quality and it also doesn't mean you will like it more than one that is more affordable.

These days I really like just about every sig pistol, any CZ, glocks, s&w shield, etc. they are all great firearms and each has its place. My current personal fav is the CZ SP-01 pistol. Besides the weight of the pistol, it's just about as perfect as you can get is you get a lot for your money
    FOR SALE:
    A2 birdcage $5
WTT CCI small pistol primers for either large pistol, small rifle, or large rifle

If you can shoot the Glock reasonably well and it feels comfortable to you, that would be the choice. Since the M&P is off the table due to the roster and the hassle of finding via PPT, Glock gets the nod simply for availability of extra parts and how easy it would be to resell should you decide you want something else.

If I had none... I'd decide on striker fired or DA/SA.

Then choose between a Glock or XD. (19,17 or XD9 4" or 5")

              or

              CZ SP-01
