    First 9mm Suggestions

I've been looking into purchasing my first 9mm handgun. At this point I own a couple hunting rifles, shotguns, and a .22 pistol. Wanting to move up in caliber in the handgun department.

Because I've never purchased a 9mm, I could use some suggestions. I've been looking at the following guns...

    Glock 19
    Beretta PX4 Storm
    Beretta M9

Any one have experience with these and any feedback?

Shoot all three if possible and see which firearm fits best in your hands and what you like to shoot.

But if I would give a recommendation due to favorites, G19. It's my EDc and my go to for HD.

You can't go wrong with a G19. I'd also look at a Sig P239 if you want something with a little more panache. Both G19 and P239 have been and still are carried by special forces. The Cz 75D PCR is also nice and great for carry. If you want something big and heavy like the M9, also look at the Cz SP01. These are some of the last semi auto 9's on the roster without nanny state features...

Well I'm a Glock fan, but out of the box most of the triggers feel like a staple gun, but can be fixed easily. Biggest pro is you'll have the same trigger pull all the time and no need to fumble with a safety.

M9 stiff double action but it can be cured with a D or 13lb wolf main spring. The drop safety can be a pain when it comes to clearing malfunctions and G safety conversion is worth every penny IMHO

Go to your local gun store and try 'em all out! There are a lot of really good guns chambered in 9mm in the $500-$700 price range. My first gun was a Sig Sauer SP2022 in 9mm. Couldn't be happier with it, especially since most Sigs are in the $900+ range.

Glocks are also always a good way to go too. Not too high on the price scale, easy maintenence, dependable, lots of upgrades out there available, definitely a gun you'll have for life if you like it.

CZ's are really nice too. I have one in 45. Low recoil because of the internal slide rails and high bore axis. And all around great guns.

Aw hell, just get 'em all.

I like my G17 and 92G. The Beretta makes it out to the range more often but the glock is beside the bed at night.

The Beretta 92 is a really nice gun, and not a bad choice for a first 9mm. They are a little heavy, but that seems to help them shoot really nice. They're super reliable, too.

Sig SP2022 seems to get rave reviews from everyone who owns one. I'd put that one in the "best buy" category - really good quality, good shooter, and around half the price of the typical Sig pistol.

If you want to spend the coin and find something via PPT, my favorite handgun of all time is the Walther P99. They're outstanding guns (although some people hate the European police-style trigger). On that note, the PPQ is also an awesome gun - but it lacks the decocker that I got used to after shooting the P99 as my daily driver for 15 years. That's my only complaint about the PPQ - it's otherwise the best handgun I've ever owned.

                      1. Go to a LGS and handle a couple of them.
                      2. Go to a range and rent the ones that felt good in your hand.
                      3. ???
                      4. Profit.

In all seriousness, like many others I definitely recommend a lot of handling and renting before you buy anything. Before I started shooting I was positive that the USP in 40S&W was the gun for me. Ended up hating the USP and hating 40 S&W, then fell in love with the "old man's gun" 1911 in .45 instantly.

I own all three and none of those are bad choices. Picking a gun is a personal choice (like picking the best car), but if I had to choose, I'd go with the Glock 19. It's the most flexible and mods are cheap and easy. If you had a couple hundred dollars more, I would look at the USP or the P226. You can tell where the extra money goes with those two.

Also note that over time, your tastes may change. For example, I used to shoot my M&P 9 better than my Glock, but over time, the roles flipped. I still don't know why, but now I favor Glocks over M&Ps.

First) Sig P229. Second) Glock G19 Both good out of the box, trouble free, and reliable. But try out some different rental models at a local range, to find one that fits your hand/carry needs/budget.

Go to the LGS and try holding different guns to see what feels best. I always recommend these to new gun owners:

                              Glock 19/17, XD9, Beretta 92FS, PX4, CZ.

Also if you are brand new to handguns, I suggest taking a few training classes.
