No, Barnwood is in Ripon. Ronning used to be Yosemite Guns and also a different name I can't recall. They aren't the friendliest or most helpful dealers I have dealt with, but they were the closest OLL dealer to Oakdale.As far as LPK, upper, and other AR parts, I give my business to Sierra Arms.Great people , very helpful.

Actually it was Barnwood Arms before that. At least in 2001 when I bought my Glock there.

The store on Yosemite Blvd in Modesto, has had the following names in this order.

Gun Country
Yosemite arms
Barnwood Arms # 2
Ronning Arms

Ronning was the manager under Barnwood and made an offer to purchase it when the ripon crew realized it was to much to travel to town. I love the ripon crew. A great friend of mine works there. However they are a bit over priced compared to Alquist. Although for a range they are much better than Ronning even though Barnwood is a bit smaller. The Barnwood crew is much cooler than Ronning. And the guy in Ceres at Downrange is way to politcal for me.

So Alquist for buying gear and guns and Barnwood for indoor range.

Your tell'n me!! I bought a $950 gun from them and took it back a couple of days later to shoot in the range. I hit a target frame and knocked off some paint. They charged me $20!! Needless to say, I now go to Barnwood or Bilson's. I stopped by Ronning Arms about two weeks ago and saw that their shelves are really low on stock. My guess is that their time is limited.

There's another store I really like but unfortunately its a long drive. If you're ever in Fair Oaks stop by Wild Sports. I've found the staff at the gun counter to be competent and very helpful. Also, they always seem to have primers when I can't find'm anywhere else.

schell's sport shop in turlock is better for ppt nftf and oll. Alquist is ok for non oll stuff.

I bought my XD from Aquist last year or so they are great. they do need better lighting and oLL's though. and as someone said earlier the guy in Ceres at Downrange is way to political he has right wing radio blasting in the shop. Also i didn't know that the XDm was legal in CA, if they are count me in for one.

A recent story about Ronning Arms. I took a buddy (new shooter recently purchased a couple of guns) and his girlfriend's teenage boys shooting at the range there about three weeks ago. My buddy was looking for some ammo for a Mosin Nagant he bought recently. He asks the clerk (younger guy) for some ammo for a Mosin, the clerk sells him three boxes of assorted .308! I ask my friend why the hell he has that ammo (thinking maybe he snuck another rifle in without my knowledge) and he explains that the clerk told him it was the correct ammo for his Mosin ("That thing shoots 7.62x51 NATO" according to the clerk).

So I explain the difference to my friend and he tries to return the ammo. Now keeping in mind that we haven't left the shop, the clerk explains that "we don't do returns on ammo" and that he would have to get store credit instead. Seemed pretty chicken **** in my opinion. My buddy, being new to the hobby, received some bad info from someone who should have known better and paid the price for it.

I've talked to somebody @ Alquist on the phone about a revolver I was looking at picking up. They were helpful and their price was very competitive. Too bad something else came up that used up the funds or I would've made the trip in.

I'll have to make a point to stop in the next time I'm down that way.

I have bought several handguns from Alquist. By far the best gunstore I have visited in a long time. Very reasonable prices and pretty darn good customer service as well. Richard is usually my first call when I'm looking to spend money on a gun. He also did a great job selling a couple of handguns for me on consignment.

Schell's Sport Shop is also a great little store to go to. A little hard to find, but worth it. Carl also offers CCW classes, for those who would like to try to get a California CCW.

Only got one complaint there is an employee that goes to walmart everymorning and buys out all the ammo......I just dont see how that is right.....he is the only that gave me my gun at the store he is your budddy but he wont even say hi when he is buying out all the 9mm right in front of you

Did you join just to bash Alquist over this? I just noticed all four of your posts are about the same thing. While I don't agree with the practice, I do understand why they're doing it. People here on calguns were doing the same thing and then selling it here.

The last time I was in Alquist, they were calling every ammo vendor out there trying to get ammo in. But, being a smaller store they just don't have the buying power and were unable to get 9mm period. That doesn't stop customers from coming in and complaining that they don't have any 9mm though.

Every experience I've had at Alquist has been very positive. Quite frankly, they're the best shop I've ever dealt with. I'm willing to forgive them for this given the circumstances.
