Which New .45 Should I Get?

Of those two in your poll, I would have to go with the XD. I don't care for double action triggers, Sig or any other brand. Striker fired or Single Action for me!

But honestly, if you are going for Striker fired or Single Action, you need to look at the others also Glock, M&P, 1911, etc.

OP, both guns are excellent choices, and it really comes down to which you prefer.

I have a 5" XD45 (the Tactical model) that is my primary HD gun. It is the softest shooting .45 that I've ever fired. Much of that has to do with the polymer frame flexing under recoil. Nice thing about this gun is that you have a 10+1 ammo capacity (13+1 if you live in a Free State). If you don't love the trigger, drop in a Powder River trigger kit and it improves the trigger pull dramatically.

I also have the Browning-labeled variant of the Sig 220. Ergonomics are excellent since it is a single-stack gun, and the pistol's weight helps soften recoil. It is a DA/SA trigger, so you have to decide for yourself whether that is good or bad. Only downside is that it offers less capacity (8+1 IIRC), which is less of an issue in California.

I voted for Bacon since there was no 1911 option. If you want tacticool, what's more tacticool than this, it even has "Operator" stamped on the slide

I am not a fan of plastic pistols, but I did like the USP I fired. So, I would look at the HK offerings as well.

I agree if you have another house gun. If this .45 is to be your primary the Sig is the way to go.

I don't see the point to buying a gun that shoots a 50% more expensive bullet than a 9mm.

If you're worried about HD, take a defensive pistol class with the money, and use a 9mm you already own.
