I thought Armscor was contracted out to make the Spartans. I highly doubt those would command a $2k price tag.

The STI Rangemaster is a sought after. It's a match fit pistol. It seems STI has a nice line of 1911s.

I was planning on a Range Master purchase for a while but ended up with the Tactical 5.0 SS model instead...

There's no real price gauging for either of those pistols.
Those are prices that aren't inflated compared to before SSE......
Spartan is discontinued now while the Trojan is still being made.

They may not be, but in free states Springfield Range Officers are in the $750.00 range (Bud's Gun Shop), even if I have to replace the ignition parts with Cylinder and Slide parts, that's an additional $100.00 or so. That makes it $850.00. Or go for the Dawson Competition Ready Package (CRP) at $998.00. SSE theoretically adds the same amount to the cost of either gun.

For a gun that's of similar quality to the Trojan, which sells for $1,198.00 or $1,298.00 for the CRP package (Dawson Precision prices).

And the Springfield Armory gun has a forged frame if you care about such things. I'm not saying it makes the gun any better, but it seems to matter to a lot of people, and STI uses forged frames on their higher end guns (anything above the Trojan).

I'm not speaking ill of STI products, they make some nice stuff. I use their slides when I build or update my guns (built a Caspian High Cap and turned a Kimber into a .40 S&W) cause they have a great reputation and their prices are good. I'm just noting that you can get similar guns in the Single Stack arena from competing manufacturers for less money. If you can find a Trojan for $1,200.00-$1,300.00, you're not paying a premium compared to Trojan prices, but it's considerably more than a Springfield. If that doesn't bother you, by all means, buy the Trojan. I'm sure it'll be a great gun.

I owned a stainless springer target 9mm it was darn fun to shoot and accurate.

Not true, the Bar Sto 2011 is on the California "safe" handgun roster.

I believe Infinity has a gun on the roster as well.

Three of my friends and I just bought the Springfield. Two of us have a "Failure to Lock on the Last Round". I've sent an email to Springfield and waiting for a response. As for accuracy and feel... it's definitely not like my Ed Brown that I compete with. I'm considering sending it back to Ed Brown to see what they could do about it. Their smiths are very good about turn-around time and have a very good customer service. They tend to undercharge me most of the time. When do you hear that nowadays.

mine was like this at first too.. but after 200 rounds through, I haven't had any problems with it.

OP: Here's one more suggestion. I realize it's outside of what you are looking at, but I feel like I have to throw it out there:

Browning High Power. It's a better 9mm "1911-ish" than a 9mm 1911. At least try one out side by side with any 1911 9mms you may be looking at.

(IMO, 9mm 1911's are a solution in search of a problem)

As someone who owns many 1911s in many calibers and a handful of Hi-Powers in a few calibers...I couldn't disagree more.

To each their own however.

I have many 1911s, mostly Springfield. One SA 9mm and one RIA 9mm and I am buuilding another 9mm. I have a FN Hi Power as well.

I agree with KeenKeen. The HP is not a 1911 in 9mm, it is a different animal. Personally I find the 1911 9mm fills a very good niche. Both great handguns, both comparable, but not the same.
