.45 if there is a reasonable chance you might ever have to fire it at another person, 9mm for the range.

Both are usually easy to find at rental ranges. Go rent both and shoot the heck out of them.

          They decide which you like.

Other than that, only you can decide if the difference in ammo cost is an issue for you. If it's not, then the only factor is the fun-to-shoot issue.

Oh, yeah, the best answer is always - "Buy Both" and never look back

            ^^this is really the answer.

Truth be told OP , rent both at the range or from a CG member. Its going to boil down to which one you are more comfortable with. I dont believe too much into that 9vs 45 debate , i believe more in good shot placement

I always prefer 45, but that is just me. I have standardized in that caliber for most of my handguns. But, 9 is cheaper, ammo wise. If you already have both calibers in your stable, then it's a toss up. If not, go with what you already buy ammo for.

Personally I prefer 45 acp, I own a 21sf and 21 gen 4. 45 acp better for defense, 9mm is cheaper on ammo. Buy both they are great guns.

I have 5 Glocks. I prefer 9mm for many reasons. I also have a 21SF which I like a lot. 9mm is just more controllable and cheaper to shoot. You will get almost twice the trigger time on a 9 than a 45 (and I reload!).

Here's a comparison from the top shooters and their perspective on the 9/45 debate.

The 26 will definitely be easier to carry and with 10 rounds it's a great choice in CA. The G30 is a very nice package, heavier to carry but won't feel undergunned with 10+1of .45.

get the 17, its the standard.

glock 45s dont really shine, if you want to go with something bigger than the 9, looks at the g20 or g40 if you have the means.

                        9mm or 10mm, if you want a 45, buy a 1911 or HK.

I was going to add that after shooting all of the handguns you mentioned, I went with the 19. It satisfys all roles and does damn good at steel challenege/idpa events.

The 21 is a fantastic gun, even though it's lighter I feel like the recoil is less than my hk45, and close to my 1911s. the g17 actually felt like it kicked the most, but that was also during a funky time in my training where I was trying something that ended up not working out so I could have been just my perception from using an awful grip.

I make good money, but the simple fact is I can buy good 9mm for $270 per 1000. And good 45 is over $400. I'm not talking finding deals either, I shoot 1k per month and I'm talking walk into any store and finding good ammo when I need it.

Definately go and shoot the guns your looking at, but unless you believe 45 has more stopping power, I can't see a compelling reason to go that route anymore.

I have several Glocks, including the Gen 4 17 and Gen 4 21. I like both, but if you are looking for a range gun only, then I think the 17 is the way to go. Both are great to shoot, but the 9mm is much cheaper than .45, if cost is a limitation for you. If cost isn't an issue, rent both and see which you like better. Or if you can, buy both and sell the one you like the least. If you are thinking about the 21, make sure you hold it first. The Gen 3 21 model's grip is pretty beefy and most people don't like it (me included). My go-to range gun is a 17, my home defense gun is a 21.

lol, you would never just want a glock of either caliber bouncing around in your cargo shorts pockets. difficult to get to in an emergency and you will bounce it off everything.
