I rented both a 19 (9mm) and a 21 (.45) and I could barely tell the difference recoil wise, very subtle and no big deal imho.

Different hands I suppose. 9mm is still almost twice as cheap though. At Walmart you can buy a box of 9mm for $10. A box of .45 will cost you $18.

There's also the aluminum stuff by federal. That's $10 as well.

I wouldn't buy a .45 ACP if this is your first pistol. If you are an experienced hand gunner, to me, .45 ACP is much more fun to shoot but if you are a newbie, 9mm is much easier to shoot accurately. There is that expense thing too, if you don't reload.

I just think 9mm is better to start w as first handgun over .45. Not saying I'm right, just my opinion to take w grain of salt. Shoot it a lot then step up to .45. I actually bought 1911 as first handgun and don't regret it now but remember looking back and thinking wished I had just gone w a Glock 9mm for first handgun purchase to train with- cheaper more manageable round to develop proper technique/no flinching etc for a novice looking to get into the hobby.

Get both. I've got a G19, G21, G26, and a G30SF. Two for each caliber, one for each hand.

The perfecta is pretty decent range ammo too.

I just fired my new 21 for the first time yesterday. Put probably 300 rounds through her. Seriously shoots like butter. Way softer recoil than my high end 1911's.

With the bonded defense loads the 9mm is all that is usually needed and besides the Glock 9mm is the way to go with a Glock.

                              Evolved,
Tough question; I have both and love both!
Always love the .45! but to each his own!
                              Have fun whatever you choose.
                              .40 is fun also!
Only you can be happy with your choice~
                              Take care!
