I still have a Gen2 G17 I use...works fine and its all beat to crap..a Gen3 would be fine with me...I have read about people having issues with Gen4 Glocks...In fact I will be looking for a G17 Gen3 pretty soon here..

I wouldn't buy an unreliable Gen 4. I've READ about all kinds of people having issues with Gen 4's.

Oh wait...I own about a dozen Gen 4's and all have been flawless.

You can always PPT one, but I wouldn't pay more than $700.

A lot of people don't realize that all Gen 4 Glocks are Short Frame (SF) when used without the backstrap. This is a pretty big deal for some people with small to medium hands because the reach to the trigger is shorter than a standard Gen 3 for a given model.

You can get some Gen 3 SF Glocks but not the popular ones like 19/26/17/23. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a Gen 3 and I own two in the form of a G30S and G22, but all my other Glocks are Gen 4 and I am happy for that. All the pistols on my permit currently are Gen 4 Glocks.

Personal preference but I think Gen3's are better than Gen4's.

I don't like the dual recoil setup.

I think for the .40 S&W Glocks, the gen4's dual spring made a difference, but in 9mm, it didn't.

Gen3 is fine, aside from what I mentioned, you won't really notice a difference.

Just curious, how many incidents has a back-strap break or get lose?

It can happen, but I think it is unlikely.

Having owned both gens, I prefer gen 3s. Don't really care for the removable back straps and the ambi mag release

I like the gen 4 but also have no issues with the gen 3, I have med to large hands ( and visable abs) but on my 4 I like it without the backstraps and a talon wrap around grip. Same with my 3's

I'd buy Gen 3's. I don't like the feel of the little bumps on the Gen 4 grip.
