opinion on Shield or compact xd?

Currently i have a glock 19 and Xd9 service model on my ccw. Im interested in adding a Shield or a compact into my collection. Any recommendstions on why a Shield 9mm would be bad?

Unsure if i will sell my glock not...i usually always carry my xd and leave glock for home defense.

The Shield is a fine weapon and it shares the same market space that the xds does. Personal preference will dictate which is best for you.

You already have two weapons that are on the large side for carry. I would definitely add one or two smaller pistols. I carry my shield anytime my commander size 1911 is a little too large to hide. Drop the apex kit in it and you'll be happy. If I were you I would be inclined to take one of the larger guns off my permit and add a shield and something smaller like a Sig P238. The XDc doesn't fit the same needs that the Shield does. It is much closer in size to the glock 19, and perhaps even thicker.

Yea i didnt know xdc is thick.

I can carry up to 3 or 5 i think im on permit. What would be the going rate for a new shield? They usually come with two mags? But no 10 rds?

Are you referring to the ca version of the shield having a mag disconnect, which won't let you fire a chambered round if there's no mag in the mag well?
For every $1 spent on a firearm, you should spend $2 training with it.

The CA Legal has a loaded chamber indicator as well. I would get the Shield and the Apex trigger upgrade is highly recommended.

You can find them from $399 an up. A buddy mentioned he saw them for cheaper than that for LE and Military, but I don't know where that was.

What's apex trigger upgrade for? Is the chamber indicator red? I seen some photos online that shows they are red

If you're looking for a compact polymore 9mm then the Shield or Kahr PM9 or CM9 are your best choices. The PM9 is on the roster but the CM9 isn't, but you can find a CM9 used and private transfer it since the roster only applies to dealer sales. If you can find a used LC9s to private transfer that's another good choice too.

The Shield mag disconnect can be removed by the way.

The grips on the Kahr`s are a little slim and the triggers are long...

Yea, but a cinder block is lighter than a Shield trigger. Apex is supposed to smooth out its flaws but not necessarily lighten it. I had an off roster Shield and ditched it after just a few weeks because I couldn't get over the feel. One of my good friends has a Kahr which I have shot and it is excellent and all you need to do is take the edges off the take down lever. Kahrs are nice and slim and handle recoil incredibly well. I would look at those options before considering a CA Shield. If OP is set on a Shield, plenty of people have been offloading the non-CA ones they SSE'd in the market place.

SHIELD is great for the price.

Cant go wrong with a SHIELD or XDsc
