The managers response was not acceptable.

It was a squib (from their reload) that you failed to recognize (from your lack of experience), followed by a live round that broke your gun. At a minimum, they should split the cost of a replacement with you and if I owned the store would be buying you a new weapon.

The root cause is bad ammo. After talking with the owner, if they still refuse to compensate you, I think I would explain you are going to take him to small claims court and chronicle your experience with his business and the court proceedings on Calguns. If that doesn't change his response, take him to court.

As I posted initially, the ammo was bad, you caused the kaboom by failing to clear the barrel before shooting another round. If I was the small claims judge, I would award you half the cost of the gun plus some additional to cover your expenses.

Your threads have been great learning experiences for many who may have never thought about such things before, good on you for posting them in such a frank and honest way.

    Good luck.

That's the first thing they'll ask you. You going to commit fraud and lie to them?

Can you get the barrel out? Any bullets still in it? How many?

You'll have a hard time convincing anyone that wasn't a squib followed by a normal load, despite your statements that it fired fine after the low powered round in your other thread. An overcharged round the damage would be much closer to the chamber, not down the barrel. You need to accept some responsibility for this as well as the range. Personally I think you'll get a better outcome if you suggest a 60 40 split, 60 on their end, than you will demanding they replace your gun outright.

Because it's cheap! I sometimes buy reloads from the main ammo seller @ gun shows.

I never liked LAX gun range... their ammo is expensive & their employees are rude and angry at life. I won't be going back there ever again.

Sorry OP! Hope you get a new gun, best of luck!

Looks like a squib to me. This is not on Springfield at all - I wouldn't even bother sending it to them.

Classic squib, followed up by another shot that finished the pistol. I'd calmly insist that the ammo place buy you another pistol. Don't flip out, but be persistant. Sending it back to Manufacturer is a waste of time.

^This, Springfield isn't going to warranty this.

Yeah, this narrative is hard to follow.
But if that range really does require shooters to only use the range's ammo, then its on them, regardless.
                  Good luck.

How cheap can it be? I can load about 1000 230 grain 45 for a little over 90 bucks. And I know it won't be complete squib ****.

Does LAX only use casings from a particular brand in their reloads? Sorry never bought their expensive reloads. How else is the manager coming to the conclusion that it wasn't their reloads?

OP I'm glad your ok and hope your gun gets taken care of by somebody.
Here is a curious question for everybody, the XD seems to be a very stout handgun, looking at the pics of the aftermath.
Just wondering how other manufactures such as Glock, HK, CZ and others would handle this same scenario.
Anyone have any info or pics of other guns with squib loads.

Yeah, well not as cheap as that. I've never reloaded before, but I'm sure it takes a lot of time? And you need to buy a machine?

It's relaxing. I do it for an hour a night before bed. I can knock out 300, then do the same the next night. Yes the initial investment for reloading equipment, bullets, cases, tumbler and powder can be more than a case of ammo. But I'd say after the equivalent of about 3 cases of ammo you've broken even or more.

Plus you can reload some expensive ammo for cheap.

I'm going back to the range on Monday to speak to the owner, show him the pistol and explain to him what had happened. Again No one there gave me any attitude so I hope they will replace or at the least pitch in to repair what can be salvaged
