If you are really friends with LEOs, you will NEVER ask them to buy an off roster firearm and then sell it to you. Many have lost their jobs making straw purchases and dealing firearms without a license doing that.

Those guys sold dozens of guns which is why they were caught. There's nothing wrong with a friend trying a gun and not liking it and then selling it.

What bothers me with all this SSE price complaints is that these guys will be the same people that will demand you give them your hard earned supplies and stock, when SHTF.

I am willing to purchase a G19 Larry vickers FDE for more than MSRP because not enough time to purchase it with the SSE.Too bad SSE was not still on, I would pay more than MSRP for a G40 if I was able to purchase now!!!

Did any of you actually read the OP's post? He's not whining about it. He's just asking if there is anything going on with prices besides good ol' fashioned profiteering.

And by using the word "profiteering" instead of "free market supply and demand", he's either trolling or being argumentative. Either way his complaint is one that plenty of whiners have used in the past, hence the broad brush label.

I feel bad for the other Californians who don't have parents out of state or have peace officer friends. I can literally get any off roster gun I want, but the only gun I'm waiting for is the compact VP9.

And as this becomes more common, expect the legislation to close that loophole too. Grab what you want now, and know that people are listening to how they can further restrict our rights.

Funny you say that. When ammo was on shortage, I had plenty of 9mm and 45 ACP. My brother wanted to shoot MY 45ACP at the range, and I told him "back off bro!!!!! You should've stocked up when you had the chance!!!!"

The only gun I want doesn't exist yet. Pretty sure HK will release a compact VP9 eventually.

There could be a problem after you've already bragged about being able to get any gun you want through them. Your post shows intent which could and would be used against both you and them. Our prison system is full of morons who talked their way into prison.

Don't understand the reference to the GTO--or the free market capitalism remarks in general.

Glock knows the G42 only shoots as well as a $470 pistol, so that is what they sell it for. They make more every day.

Glock makes zero G42's for sale to the common (non-LEO) population in California. So the comparison is valid. For all intents and purposes, there's a fixed number of those guns available. If you are looking to buy one, you are severely limited to whom you can purchase it from. And no one "owes" you anything, so the price is whatever you think is fair and what the seller wants to let it go for.

I said this is the opposite of free market--what I meant was the California gun land scape is not a free market, it is artificially manipulated by the list. If that roster was gone today, how much would all those G42's be worth tomorrow?

The gun market is artificially inflated by a bunch of factors, including transfer fees and the roster making certain guns unattainable. But the market for an individual gun is still a free market, in the sense that there's no set price for them. If the roster was gone tomorrow, a G42 may still carry an inflated price, because Glock may not be ready to meet demand and someone, for whatever reason, needs that gun TOMORROW. But many people are betting that the roster is never going away and may only get worse, so paying today's premium for a gun might seem like you got a bargain five years from now. All the nature of the beast. If you need something, you pay what it costs, if you have the luxury of time, go ahead and wait it out and hope things get better. Nowhere in there is the option for me to sell it for less than I think it's worth because you don't like the price.

My opinion only, but you should always have enough ammo/components to last two years at normal pace. Failing that, some time sooner than later, those that don't will be on these boards whining about hoarders.

But don't hoard in times of scarcity, the pricing will kill you. A proper hoarder hoards in times of plenty.

To the OP: Yes, there's lots of price gouging on cal guns (and elsewhere).

I wish people would realize that there are still lots of great rostered guns that are just as good as ones no longer available. That's where the bargains are. For example, for 99% of shooters the on-roster Glock 23 Gen 3 is just as good as the now off-roster Gen 4 version. Is the Gen 4 worth the extra $200 or so? No way!

The great thing about cal guns is that it acts as a sounding board against gouging so buyers can make informed purchases without getting ripped off. Capitalism requires the free flow of information for that to happen.
