Ideal for Los Angeles County to issue CCW

Bob Lindsey ran for Sheriff the last time around. IMHO, he would have made an excellent Sheriff and was pro-CCW. He had a good record of integrity and stood up to a number of the bad acts of the administration, to the extent that his son was tried on charges that were falsified by the prior Undersheriff. His son was acquitted at trial (and jury requested the opportunity to be photographed with him following the trial, and to express their gratitude for his service). The county later settled the civil lawsuit for a substantial sum.

Ken Masse and Robert Olmstead were also former department members who ran for the office. Ken was pro-CCW and I don't know Robert's stance, but also believe that he was. Both also would have made outstanding Sheriffs. Robert was a key player in bringing the last round of executive misconduct to light.

But none of these men received anywhere near enough votes to win. L.A. County is quite political. The current Sheriff understood the politics and made all the necessary promises needed in order to win the election. The problem is that he's now unable to keep all of the promises made.

Maybe with the Libs trying to turn everyone anti-LEO, maybe now is a good time to let them know that they have supporters in us. Issuance of CCWs in many areas would eventually be a deterrent to crime, which in turn would make the job of the LEO less dangerous. If they are looking for allies here we are.

There was an article posted in a CA politics litigation and activism forum thread which I am referring to here.

In the comments, someone wrote that AV would be issuing permits now because of the pandemic. The article commenter said the sheriff made the statement about ccw in a virtual town hall 3 days ago. I am looking for it but cannot find the town hall recording. Has anyone had luck verifying this?

If someone can track down an online video of that virtual town hall, that would be great. But, even if AV said he'd issue more CCWs, he's flipped back and forth on 2nd A issues before (e.g., closing down gun stores during emergency).

It hit me this morning that crime is starting to rise in Los Angeles County again. Emptying of the jails is probably the main reason for that... LA County Sheriff Alex Villanueva has publicly announced budget problems (caused by County Supervisors cutting his budget because they really don't like him). I'm trying to think up a sales pitch that says "CCW Permit Issuing will help."

I know CCW permits are fixed price/fee, however, there are ways around this with "options".

1) Fast track option where the person applying supplies a DOJ COE for approval, saving the Sheriff's department the labor/money.
2) Required training could be through a school that gives kickback money to the Dept. Licencing/endorsement I believe is the word.
3) Sheriff could request a once-a-year ride along to help augment his staff.
4) Obvious direct cash flow from +10,000 law abiding people applying and maintaining those permits year after year.

Any other ideas on how to sweeten this for him? He may do it just to rub it in the Super's faces at this point. They really hate each other.

There are no LA County CCW's. Rarely judges and political donors. The criteria are there must be an imminent credible threat on your life that cannot be addressed in any manner other than CCW. If there is an imminent credible threat on your life you do not need a CCW. You need a squad car on its way NOW to your house. So CCW does not exist in LA county.

That's excellent and clear, but it is the wrong town hall. The one where AV mentions CCWs (near the very end, 1:53 minutes in), has two Captains with him (each in their own video "square") and was on June 15th.
