Many folks do not want their employers to know they are carrying, that is disappointing for SB county to require such. A check stub or employee ID should be enough. The intent of CCW is not to broadcast to the world.

Work verification for ccw -problems

I believe San Bernardino County sends out those letters, because of the only restriction that they print on the permits they issue is "Not to be used for employment purposes."
And the letters help them determine if you need the permit for employment.sigpic

I talked to my HR at work again and she still said she cant fill it out and that corporate still has not responded to her about filling it out, so I am writing an email to my main manager to talk to him and see what can be done. I am out almost $200 and 5 months of time if they wont do it and my only option if I want to get my permit is to leave the job, which I don't want to have to doComment

I do IC and EE verifications on a very frequent basis. I never do anything via telephone, don't know who is on the other end! Everything has to be in writing, always.
Based on what you've said, I assume this is a very large corporation, they've outsourced it and everything is recorded/digitized.
How can this 3rd party determine if it is a bonafide inquiry? There has to be an exception to the rule for a Gov't Agency.

Yes, but it depends on who has the authority to make those exceptions and if they're willing to do it. This is another example of how issuing authorities try to deny people their God given right to carry a firearm.Comment

Id love to move up there and get me some land, grew up raising livestock.
Ive emailed my boss to see if he can help me, he originally hired me and is pretty good at talking with me about problems and things, so ill see what he said. Im out all my money if they wont do it or I have to quit. If they wont fill it out I should ask if there are going to reimburse me for it getting denied and me losing my money... this is soo frustrating!!!!Comment

Asking for reimbursement, are you kidding? Don't do it.
Your employer has zero liability for saying it's ok you are issued a permit. They obviously can restrict you from carrying at work.
It's just an obvious lack of knowledge on your employers part. That letter in post #13 could be viewed as you will be carrying at work and they must let you if approved. Stupid I know, they need to speak to their Attorney to be set straight.

talked to my boss again and they still say they cant it goes against company policy, cuz it leaves a paper trail back to them, and that's why they use a 3rd party to to that stuff. talked to the sheriff again and they said even if I quit the job, they would still need the letter from the company saying when I was hired and when I was quit, so im royally screwed either way and now I feel like quitting because of how hypocritical they are to let me sell their guns, but wont fill out a form letting me carry on my own time.Comment

That letter is extremely intrusive in my opinion.
I'm retired so not an issue, but I doubt my employer would have returned that letter had they received it.
Fortunately OCSD is not that intrusive.
It seems strange since San Bernardino County is considered a "Shall Issue" county.Comment

It is one of the remnants of the Hoops administration, which was "shall issue" but imposed more hoops that you had to jump through.
Prior to McMahon, in addition to the residence and employment check, as a part of the application process we had to provide three WRITTEN character references, plus provide five additional telephone references.
They would in turn ask for references from references... by the time they were done, they had likely contacted your wife's hair stylist's gardener
All of this is to establish whether or not you are of Good Moral Character.
Keeping in mind that SB is the largest county in the US, and a large part of that area is extremely desolate... There are MANY criminals involved in drugs and human trafficking who simply have never been caught.
I agree... the employment check is not legally required. It is policy.
As such, should an employer refuse to return the form, there SHOULD be some pathway for character verification... perhaps allowing written references?- Rich
