Does anybody have any recent experiences applying for an initial permit? I am curious about timelines as I applied a week ago and I?m just trying to get a general idea about when I will be signing up for a class? Thanks in advance

I recently did another gun swap, and when I went in to pick up my updated license, they hand out the following single-page information sheet with the license:

      DELETED old info

A couple of points on renewal:

      2. Renewal: Submit your renewal application at least 3 months (90 days) before the expiration date. (emphasis mine)

      3. Renewal course: A mandatory 8-hour renewal course is required every two years. You can undertake the qualification class up to 6 months before the permit's expiration.
      My question:

Do we need to have the completed course certificate in-hand prior to starting the renewal application process? I'm just going to assume that this is true, or that it will at least streamline the process.

Interesting, I never got that handout on my license issuance in 2023. Alicia told me I was welcome to laminate it if I wanted but provided no other guidance other than when I went to renew in 2025 I should get a plastic card instead of paper I trimmed off excess space and folded it before lamination.

Oops, hopefully that doesn't cause me a problem at some point.

So how long have renewals been taking lately? Wondering if I should check in with them.

So glad the forum is up again. Took me a couple months to get approved but I'm all set.

Also, and this is exciting I got this message from Alicia

'' In addition, as part of our transition to hard cards, we kindly request that you upload a recent photo of yourself. The photo should be a clear headshot, without hats or glasses, and should accurately represent your current appearance. ''

Does this mean we're getting a normal card?

Has anyone gone through a renewal post SB2 and if so what if anything did they require that was different from your initial application?

It took me about 8 months to get approval. However Sheriff Engram has gotten it to go faster. No guarantees but I know of one person who got approved in 4 months, but he was an FFL.

They'll tell you when to sign up for a class. When they do you're pretty much home free

Just got my approval for renewal, took a couple months. Only difference is the training class, 8 hours instead of 4

I just picked up my new license. It's a real card now! Same dimensions as my driver's license. Looks great too. My wallet feels funny now.

Has anybody qualified with a different grip module on their handgun? Say a wilson combat vs factory sig?

Here's how much it was in 2021 vs now 2024. A $554.25 increase for new CCW and $334.75 increase for renewal.

had anyone had luck qualifying with a pistol with an aftermarket slide? I’m looking at a Glock with an RMR but it’s not a factory slide? I tried looking on the permitium side and all my old paperwork but I couldn’t find any references. I have an email out to Alicia

I noticed this verbiage on the SCSO ccw page which I don't remember seeing before

                                (i) Absent an exemption noted on the license, the licensee is expressly prohibited from carrying firearms on the property of any school, court building, courtroom, jail or prison facility, or any other place where firearms are prohibited.
Does this mean they now expect you to honor no firearms signs on private businesses even through they don't hold force of law?
