      Haha... I was just giving him crap... he knows the instructor.

      The class is primarily about learning the laws and some basic recommendations around carry and staying out of trouble.

      On the line, the class is basically a safe handling demonstration with live fire.
      Your gun will be inspected to ensure that it is safe and operates properly. You will go out to the line at 5 yards, load up, fire 5 rounds, reload, and fire 5 more.
      8 out of 10 is passing.
      Target area is the upper torso of a B27

            Yup... Likewise, headshots don't count.

            Someone reported a couple of years ago that they were instructed 2 chest, 1 head, 2 chest reload, 1 head, 2 chest, 1 head, 1 chest.
            IIRC it was devore, but I have not seen any other reports of this routine... perhaps it was someone from Riverside or OC (private training) posted in the wrong forum?

                    AVGC has a "pre-class" Rich. I think it's filling out paperwork and doing a simulated range qual. In fact it was tonight.

                        Maybe I've missed it but, doesn't SB610 say we must have an answer to the application within 90 days and an answer within 30 days of BG check with a maximum fee of 100$?

                        Why is this process taking so long for everyone and costing so much?

                        Also, I have heard horror stories about officers contacting neighbors and asking about domestic violence only to reveal to the neighbor that you are a firearm owner and possible CCW carrier in the future.

                        Is there any merit to these stories?

                          I'm told it's just to verify your residence. I haven't even heard from any neighbors that anyone came around. I heard the deps. use a generic terms, non criminal background or some such.

                            The licensing authority shall give written notice to the applicant indicating if the license under this article is approved or denied. The licensing authority shall give this notice within 90 days of the initial application for a new license or a license renewal, or 30 days after receipt of the applicant’s criminal background check from the Department of Justice, whichever is later. If the license is denied, the notice shall state which requirement was not satisfied.
                            If it takes DOJ 2 years to process, they have 2 years and 30 days.

                            Why is this process taking so long for everyone and costing so much?
                            There are multiple fees. The Livescan fee and training fees are broken out separately.
                            Livescan = 108
                            DOJ+Admin = $153
                            Training = $100

                            For renewal,
                            DOJ = $52
                            Admin = $38
                            Training = $25

                            So assuming the DOJ fee is $53 (or more), the admin fee is $100 or less.

                            Also, it was signed in 2011, and allows for fee increases indexed to the cost of living.
                            26185 defines the DOJ fees. Agency fees are in excess to that (and fingerprinting) and shall not exceed $100 (adjusted for COLA)

                            They will send your employer a basic character reference form. They will not approve without this completed and returned.
                            They will conduct a neighborhood check. The primary purpose is to confirm that you indeed do live where you claim you live (a lot of people live in LACO but own cabins in the mountains).
                            We've heard several versions of what neighbors are told... "County permit" "Non-criminal investigation", and yes, "Concealed carry permit"

                            Nobody has reported any issues from this. Remember, these are cops and they have access to the criminal records of your neighbors. They aren't going to knock on the door of the crack house and tell them that you are applying for a CCW.

                              FWIW none of my neighbors even mentioned to me that they were contacted concerning Carrie or myself and I'm pretty familiar and friendly with almost everyone on my street. I have no idea who they even talked to.

                              The employment check was non-existent since I am self employed, the detective mentioned that makes his job easier but I don't know if that had any bearing on the overall background check time.

                              Price/time to get my SB permit looks like it will be right around $300 all inclusive and roughly 14 months. Not cheap, and certainly not fast, but I don't recall anybody here saying it would be. I think everyone here would agree both suck, but I also think most agree it's worth the hassle and price if that's what it takes.

                                So a first contribution to this thread.

                                Applied August 18th, online and was given an interview date of 5-24-17.
                                Asked about moving my interview to Rancho Cucamonga Sheriff's dept. New interview date, 1-24-17.

                                Interview went well as did live scan. Was told I would get a call about a range date in 4 to 6 months, emphasizing 6 months.

                                I had a discussion with my boss about having the employer letter sent directly to him, since I work for a worldwide organization. If I sued the corporate address, it would to go a generic mailroom, be forwarded to an HR person who knows nothing about me. Then they would eventually send it to my boss. I was told they prefer a direct contact, makes it easier for them.

                                My best guess is around 300 bux, plus about 12 months (+/_), depending on the range date.

                                My neighbor check should go easy since I have lived here since the house was new, and I help all my neighbors with projects.
