Yes, you read that correctly. Unless something changes, I will be waiting 11 months just for the interview. Based on others' experiences, I thought I would be waiting around 6 months. My lease will expire before this date. My Driver License will expire before this date. My Utility Bills for proof of residence will be expired by 10 months before this date (if the 60 day rule applies at time of interview instead of application).

I wanted to post this both to gripe to my fellow calgunners and let you guys know what to expect if you are trying to join the ranks like me. Also, if you all have any tips for how to move this date up, please share. If not, I guess I'll see you folks in 11 months.

    8 Calendar Days

From Interview to Permit in hand.

Process was intimidating to start but with some information from this thread, some supporting personal comments, it's a done deal. Did make a calendar entry to remind myself when I need to renew so I don't expire.

No handshake, cake with Sheriff Jones, just a laminated card and a nod from the guy behind the glass.

EDC - Ruger P89 because it just feels right.

Funny, most can do that at home, now.

Except SSD laminates the dang thing which creates issues.

    2. I then laminated the reduced-size concealed carry license. It's now small enough to fit in my wallet.

    3. I keep the original concealed carry license in my vehicle.

In the extraordinarily unlikely event that I have to use my firearm in self-defense, I figure the reduced-size license -- while not the real McCoy -- will at least partially reassure the responding officers as I tell them that the original is in my glove box (with my car registration and insurance).

And for what it's worth, at least two FFLs have accepted the reduced-size license for DROS purposes.

You are not alone, Grasshopper.....This does come up periodically.....

    Here’s the last time I posted on this....June 2020

    Cliff’s Notes:
-Carefully trim the lamination close, but not at, the license. Round the corners of the laminate. Empty the wallet and push the license into a back slot. Re-fill wallet.
-OBG found an ID pack which works (hopefully he misses this post, or he might blow a gasket...). It’s ok.
-Only remove license when buying guns or in trouble.

The agencies using these usually call them "identification" or some other term because the license form must be approved by DOJ.

Some historical ideas for carrying this folded, laminated thing:

2009: how do you carry your ccw permit?

2010: CCW license wallet - Sacramento County size !

    2011: Re-sizing Sacramento's BIG ccw permit?

2014: Sac County CCW Permit is huge

    2014: CCW Wallet suggestions? Sacramento

2015: Ridiculously large Sac county CCW permit
    Enjoy.

Thoughts: The process was overall fairly smooth. It was a longer wait time than I would have liked but that was probably due to the pandemic, I can only image how long the wait time is now. Also the card given is a pos laminated piece of paper. You think since we are in Sac County they would give us a bad *** card, but oh well it still gets the job done. [emoji1688]
First, congratulations...that’s a really good timeline for these days.

FYI, that “pos laminated piece of paper” is the official state license, FD 4501, also referred to as the “Rice Paper” license. While the statute authorizes a hard card license, DOJ has yet to provide guidance on its standards. While it appears that other agencies are issuing a license ID, the actual license is the rice paper.
